polish receiver, et al

I'd like to take the dullness off the receiver and forend metal and polish them a little, but I'm concerned about the engravings.
I am considering a Dremel tool and some jewelers rouge buffing compound.

Suggestions please.

Unplug the Dremel

I wholeheartedly agree with John, polished receivers are hideous.

Do not polish for several reasons. One , Dremel tool polishing is dangerous to the engraving, two, polished metal on a Parker looks cheap and out of place and IMHO , not at all acceptable.

If the metal is merely "dull" you can try a Frontier pad and some Hoppes. Or just the pad. Do NOT use any form of buffer or compound. Actually, this job is better left to a pro since basic disassembly yields the best results.

Leave the gun be.

Don't do it. Someone polished the received on my Trojan before I got it and I'd pay a lot to have those case colors back !

Roberto S Siciliano 06-14-2021 06:29 PM

The reason I asked about buffing up the metal is because I treated all my metal components with "Sweet Shooter" and it left them dull.

Leave it… it will wear over time to your better liking.

Here's my D 10 ga. Lifter. I bought it like this because the price was right and I've been thinking of how to rectify it for 10 years.
