Seyfried

Ross Seyfried recently did an article on shotshells that might be of intrest to some here . 10 , 12 and 16 gauge stuff ! https://www.shootingtimes.com/editor...loading/361504

Thanks, that is good information to have. Whenever I see published load data there is one part they always seem to leave out, the shot to shot variation in pressure and velocity. When I chronograph supposedly low pressure loads I tend to see higher than I would like variations in velocity. My experience (admittedly not great) is that today's powders have an optimal operating point and if you drop below that point you start to get greater variation. I have not played with any black powder.

Good article. Thanks for posting that 6pt-Sitka.

I agree with Carl, it would be nice to see the pressure variations on these loads. I sent in a short 10 load with Longshot some time back. Very little velocity variation (32 fps) but there was one shot that went 10,000 psi. Low reading was 7,900 psi.
For my own purposes, that test made me discard the idea of Longshot in the old gun.

That test data included in the following thread.

Forgive my ignorance. What is Longshot?

Garry L Gordon 09-29-2019 12:50 PM

Maybe a better question is, what makes it unique? Is it made for lower pressure loads? Does it burn differently?

James Halvorson 09-29-2019 04:51 PM

Longshot is a type of powder. It's like saying Unique, SR7625 or Bullseye.
Longshot is a high energy powder with a high Nitroglycerin content.

Bt Justice goes into detail on it in other threads including here- https://www.refugeforums.com/threads....991274/page-2
