Does this checkering look correct for a Grade 2 UL
2 Attachment(s)
Here is a gun coming up in the RI auction, I have no interest in acquiring this gun nor am I the seller. I am curious about the checkering, to me it appears much coarser than normal and the checkering on the forend is 100% coverage and appears very course. The gun is serial number20845 8ga UL 32"bbls. What do you say in that the stock and forend appear to be factory in shape with a metal butt plate which would appropriate for the period. Does the checkering look correct to you for a Grade 2 UL hammer gun??

I believe it very well could be the original checkering pattern and could even be the original cutting.
As far as the checked-all-over forend, a letter might validate it. And I wonder if a letter would address the initial cap on the knob of the grip? . |
The grip looks very correct to me. The forend being full cover on a grade 2 would certainly be different. It appears as if it lacks a border along the top of the forend under the barrel, which would certainly not be the norm in my mind if it were to be factory checkering on the forend. Too bad there is not a better view than that of the forend.

I have a grade 2 UL a couple years earlier than the one posted. The checkering on the Butt stock is same. The forend is not full coverage.

Well I paid for a letter on the gun just to satisfy my own curiosity. Chuck did his normal masterful job of turning it around very quickly. Now I know, the gun letters as it sits.

Any mention of the initial plate on the knob? Normally those were only seen on Grade-5 and above.

Yes

I thought it would.

Ok . . . who got it?

What did it sell for?
