Needs advice on a possible 20ga DHE purchase
 

Hi,

New to the forum and to Parkers for that matter. I’m really enjoying the forum and learning everything I can about Parkers. I’ve been in search of a Parker Repo after seeing my friends Parker Repro while shooting skeet and fell in love with the gun. I came across this listing and wanted to get some opinions on this gun from people that I’m sure have a lot more experience than me. I normally shoot 12ga but for some reason I feel this gun would be better in 20ga. If I’m off base on the 20 over the 12 please let me know. I don’t do much in the way of hunting because of where I’m stationed so for me it’s only trap and skeet. I guess what really drew me to the shotgun was the lighter color of the wood. I will add that it is in the most common configuration for a 20 gauge Reproduction - IC / Mod, 26” barrels, single trigger, pistol grip.

There are very good reasons to shoot a 20 gauge and equally good reasons to shoot a 12.
If you’re used to shooting a 12, don’t expect a 20 to measure up to everything a 12 can do. On the other hand, a 20 has it’s advantages.

Those IC / Mod chokes are not very effective for trap shooting nor are they preferred for Skeet. They are however, very good for SC and hunting eastern upland game.

Great looking gun. It will do everything a 12 will on the clay's field. I regularly shoot 20 gauge on skeet and don't feel disadvantaged.

You can get the chokes opened up to skeet/skeet if you want. I actually shoot skeet with 28 Ga regularly. Billy

Thanks for the replies. I realize I will have limitations with this setup and I do wish the barrels where longer. It seems like all the 26” barrels are MOD/IM and the 28” barrels are MOD/Full. I guess it’s more about owning one. Also the 12 vs 20 had a lot do about collectibility 28ga aside. I would think the 12ga would be more valuable over 20ga in the long run. If I understand correctly they made less 12ga models. Maybe I’m rushing into purchasing and should wait until awhile.

If you wait a q1 q2 for skeet would fit your needs perfectly. I have one and it is the perfect choke combination for skeet and grouse and woodcock. They are not easily found but do come up for sale occasionally. The price on the one you listed seems a little high to me, used can be found for less.

Watch the better auctions. You can get repros at very good prices in many cases.

set with Q1, Q2 on both for 5 thousand, so you will find a better deal than the one you mentioned

Take a look at the for sale section. There is a sweet 12 ga for sale that is about the ideal set up, in my opinion.
