"O" and "OO"..That is the question..

I just bought a VH stock that was sold as an "O" frame...Round knob..DHBP..All original..and very nice... When I got it, I checked the SN against the book..233299..and it turns out it is listed for a 410.It's an OO size..and fits 28 gauge. According to TPS, an OO frame is 1 29/32 across bolsters...and an O frame is 2 1/32...or about 1/16 on a side difference. Brian D. says this is the critical measurement. Would a 1/16 difference be that critical ?..If the answer is positive yes...Then I have an OO..round knob stock for sale..or trade...Any thoughts ?..thanks ..jv..

Yes Jerry, 1/16" will make a critical difference in correct fit.

That seems to be the general consensus..DAMN !

How did you determine that your stock was OO size? An OO .410 is a very rare gun.

There are worse things to be stuck with than a 00 frame stock.

Bill..The Parker serial number book shows it as a 410..I miked the width at the head against 4 of my 16 "O" frame guns..and it is about 1/8 or so different..so...about a 1/16 on a side. I bought this as a "just in case" stock. I especially liked the round knob. The seller has offered to take it back..and I've had an offer..but the chances of finding a .410 or 28 that I would buy now are slim..

Jerry VanHorn 12-10-2017 08:40 AM

and...Bill..I must be mistaken in thinking that all .410 guns were OO frame ?..Am I wrong ?..

edgarspencer 12-10-2017 09:36 AM

Most ..410s were 000 framed.A PG (as opposed to a capped PG) stock, to fit a 00 framed 28 is a very lovely thing. I had just such a GHE, but, regrettably, slate roof repairs don't come cheap. I consider selling that gun the supreme sacrifice, and still be living.

What with wood aging..hand done fitting, etc..and the listed differences being listed in 32nds and sixteenths...and the Parker book showing all but 2 of the O and OO frame dimensions being the same...I STILL don't know for sure...The seller has offered to take it back..and I've had an offer...One thing for sure..it's going today..
