Damascus refinishing

Who’s the go to for Damascus refinishing? I know Bachelders seems to have quite a wait these days.

I'm still trying to get a good black white finish. I've been sidelined by preparations to sell the farm. Too many heirs that don't live here to enjoy it.

The following is about as far as I have gotten.

You're getting there Harry. Looks like a few more iterations are needed.

Which is more correct for a Parker, the black or brown finish.

BTW, these look pretty good Harry.

I would be happy with Harry's results. I hope he will let us know when he is taking on some work.

How is black achieved vs brown when undergoing the process? Also, does re-browning bbls fall under the dreaded question of restoration, or is that reserved for refinishing wood and re-color case hardening. Definitely don't want to poke the hornets nest, just interested as I have a refinished Parker and holy cow is it beautiful to look at. I would not be lying if I said I wish all my barrels could be so nice.

Best,
Dean

Dean - you’re in this Parker collecting for yourself, not to please others. They’re your guns. There are different levels of tastefully bringing out their original beauty and you can go as far as you wish. On your guns that are in higher condition, you may choose to leave them as they are and just clean them up a bit... but again, they’re your guns.

A top gunsmith once told me that I had three options:I could have it cheap; I could have it fast; or, could have it done right, but I had to pick one.

Bachelder is known for the quality and consistency of the results and to my knowledge, no one comes close to matching the original finish. Why take a chance with another shop in order to have your barrels back a couple months earlier?
