Safety jacket
How deep, from the top, does the safety jacket need to be set into the stock for function correctly and not interfere with putting the action back in the stock?
I believe the longer side would be on the right, along the inletting ledge for the top tang. Would the top edge of that longer potion be flush with the wood? |
I found a few guns, within a close relationship in serial numbers, where the jacket had tabs on the top, either side. The jacket would only go down so far. if my memory serves me correctly (though I do have to take one off to ship out) the top and bottom of the actual rocker portion is pretty evenly recessed on both the top and bottom. They aren't always so tight that if it's off slightly, it doesn't get re-positioned when the trigger plate and top tang squeeze together.
I guess this is a pretty vague answer, but I'm not real good with words so early in the AM. |

The jacket should touch the bottom of the tang.
