Closing Bell

Closed the quail season. Fair number of birds but we had to work hard to find them and many were smarter than we were as is so frequent with wild birds. I started the season in mid September and snow and cold have followed in every hunt we have had. The first day was warm and the coveys were like the old days. Then cold and ice fog hit and we dropped to only 5-6 coveys per day and they were mostly burrowed in.

Dick Dow, Russ Lindsay, Seth Irvin and me. Plenty of dog power with six between us.

Great hunts Bruce - Thanks!

Not so bad really... it sure beats the hip-deep snow you had a few years back on some pheasant hunts you all did out there.

Thanks Reggie. I did not mention our high end cuisine out on the plains. Dick was bemoaning the prohibition against goose livers in California restaurants. They aa had chicken livers and gizzards right in town. I figure that is close. We slipped some straws in his pocket as he was returning to California , that is also prohibited there so he could be in big trouble for smuggling straws or shotgun shells into California.

Dick’s dog was able to run on the plains without getting a ticket for being off leash.

And somehow we missed the shenagans going on in Virgina.

And of course a local high school was doing a senior class gun raffle , a good way to get a new truck gun. This might be a good fund raiser for schools on the coasts , too .

Not California goose liver but this will do:

Bruce,

Glad you "weathered" the end of season so well. We, too, started Sept. 1 and just ended our season. Looks like your season was a good one with friends, their dogs, and enough birds to keep all of you entertained. Thanks for sharing your hunts.
