Marred Screws on 16g VH

2 Attachment(s)
Hi all,

I just picked up a 16ga VH with a straight grip from 1911 for a pretty good price. All things considered, it’s in pretty nice condition for what I paid with good solid wood, original DHBP some remaining finish on the receiver and barrels, and perfect bores. However, someone had the gun apart in the past and marred up the screws on the left side of the receiver, and the front screw seems to be a replacement.

Were these screws fitted individually to the gun? Would new screws need to be made or is it possible to buy replacements from someone parting out another gun? I don’t need these to be perfect, but the front replacement screw bothers me especially.

Every screw on the gun is fitted to the gun for proper fit/alignment.
Hoping that used screws from another gun will properly fit on your gun is wishful thinking. Function, yet. Fit properly, no.

Thanks Dudley. Is this a case of SOL, or are there persons who can either make a new screw or fit an existing one? Is it even worth the cost if I can find someone to do the work? I can live with the two originals that are marred, but would love to have something that looks less out of place for the front screw.

Those look pretty bad, but, on occasion, it's possible to peen the distorted slot edge back down. It doesn't make it look great, just passable to ok. a 1/4" Starrett punch works ok.

I am looking for a set of new / replacement receiver screws that can be fitted to a hammerless 12ga. The screws used to be available from Connecticut Shotgun, but seam to have dried up.
