Lefever's Uncle Dan Cup to be held at Rock Mountain's Northern Shoot
 

Ken Snyder is going to represent the Lefever Arms Collectors Association at the Northern at Rock Mountain next week. He will be at Brian Dudley's table. We will hold the 2020 Uncle Dan Cup there. The event will be shot on any of the 50 bird courses by any gauge Dan Lefever gun (not Nitros). You must be an LACA member to win. You can join (prior to shooting, obviously) at the event. Contingency if Mike were allowed to shoot for the Uncle Dan Cup …… I was going to loan him a defective gun as Tool Man did last year at the VGC. :banghead::rotf:

Field Rules for vintage gun events at RM = Gun doesn’t go bang for any reason, bird(s) “lost”.

BTW, the Uncle Dan Cup will have awards for HOA, RU and 3rd.

Do the field rules include low gun, butt of stock below the armpit? That's the most oft violated (but never enforced) rule I have seen when required.

Pete, you'll have to ask Ken and Mike that question. I agree, the low gun setup is often violated but personally I've seen more "do overs" even though field rules are in place ….. safety was left on, firing mechanism problems, gent forgot where the clay is coming from and rushes the shot/misses, and whining that the clay was off the flight path after the fella had shot/missed. On the latter two excuses my shooting gang has a firm rule, i.e., you shot it ….. you bought it.

No sir. Only thing we want is the gun to go bang. Since we’re shooting clays we allow any gun hold. Those of us who have shot competitively for years consider a gun held an inch or two off the face a “low gun”.

You are free to set whatever rules you want for the shoot, or any of the events. In competitions that stipulate a low gun such as FTISAC Clays and Int'l Skeet and clubs I have been to shooting "Modern" Skeet, along with a few local chapter Vintagers events have had well defined low gun rules. I have seen a good number of people premount or do what you say and call it low gun and it's generally ignored. Personally I don't see the point of holding the gun an inch or two off the face and calling it low gun, just premount and be done with it. I was just wondering if "field rules" included a low gun and how it was defined. Thanks for the clarification.

By way of a quick update, even at the 11th hour Mike has been kind enough to allow us a table of our own to set up a LACA display. I am pleased to say that Chris Schotz will join us and contribute some wonderful examples. We will have a nice cross section of LAC and early Partnership guns so please come and spend some time with us!

I will have the Uncle Dan Cup recording sheets at the table along with more info for those new to the event, and hope to see many of the fine shooters here enjoy some range time with an Uncle Dan creation!

This is the first shoot I'm able to attend since receiving my gun back from Brian and I am so pleased to bring it for everyone to see his masterful work on a truly special Lefever.
