Laser Engraving

I am interested in transfering a digital image to mild steel in basrelief (3D). Is this possible; and, could I be referred to a good source of information on the subject. I haven't had much luck with google (probably a lack of researching skills).

Thanks, Fred

I recall Barry Lee Hands showing an acid etch technique on the doublegunshop forum. The border area was masked as well as the raised subject area. Then acid (nitric?) Was poured into a dammed up area to hold the acid.

For multiple reproductions, EDM with an engraved annode is one technique.

I know this is an old thread but I wonder if the OP ever had the job done and how it turned out. Barry Hands used that technique only to lower the background to both save time and make it nice and level, which is a lot harder to do with a flat graver. The animals and figures were then sculpted after that.

Thanks Tim for the reply. No, I haven't pursued the matter further but I would be glad to hear from anyone who wishes to.
