Mini shot shell

Can mini shot shell be used in Damascus barrels?

Rick Losey 03-12-2017 07:22 PM

i would want to know two things

what is the generated pressure?

and

why?

edgarspencer 03-13-2017 07:14 AM

What is a mini shot shell?

Rick Losey 03-13-2017 07:45 AM

Little stubby self defense rounds. So that you can increase the capacity of black stocked pump shotguns

After you modify the carrier not to try to pick up two because they are so short

edgarspencer 03-13-2017 08:15 AM

Ah, I see. Another bit of engineering marvel. I guess that leads me back to your second question; why?

The why? Not really sure. I bought 10 boxes for $5.00 each as they intrigued me. They had come out of an estate.
I did shoot a few boxes and they have pretty low recoil. Shot some hand thrown Eurasian dove we trapped and they seemed pretty effective.

Rick's comment re Mag capacity, and you're picture, with Spanish on it, makes a bit of sense to me now. A friend had two lightweight pumps of some Italian make, with somewhat short barrels, and full length magazines. The were identical, except one was 28ga and the other was 12ga.
The explanation was they were for one of the South American bird shooting events. Argentina as I recall. For whatever reason, all I could envision was shooting pigeons in Trafalgar Square.

Richard Flanders 03-13-2017 12:41 PM

Those are a new on one me. Never even heard of them. I like the hand-thrown Eurasian dove idea!

Phillip Carr 03-13-2017 01:05 PM

An unlimited supply of them and they are a secondary bird to the pigeons my hunting partner traps.
They are a fun way to shoot a Lot of my sxs and try different loads, especially vintage shells that I buy.

i have a box of these that phil carr gave me thanks again....charlie

What is the length of the shell loaded and empty? Could they have been made with 2" chambered guns in mind?

Paul Harm 04-13-2017 11:55 AM

Years back, for something to do, I loaded up about 7 boxes of 2" shells. Did it on a Mec Jr. Took some fiddling. If I remember, there's a extra long plunger I made for the final crimp station. They look cool, but that's about all. Shoot the same as any reduced pay loaded shell.

These little shells are less than 2"'s long, have a little over 1/2oz of 7 1/2 shot at 1200 fps. We were shooting wobble trap and I handed a few of these out. What a hoot! The gun goes off, the target shatters, you hear the noise, but there is absolutely zero recoil. I remember everyone laughing after their shot.

I shot some RST 2inch 12's out of a Stephan Grant hammer gun last January at Morrison Pines. No recoil and fun to shoot but the Quail didn't like them. I bought a case of RST paper 2 inch shells at the Southern and will use them in an English light game gun for Grouse and Woodcock this fall.

There was an ammunition company called New Era from Michigan and Brian (the owner) made up some 16ga 2 inch paper shells and I have about 50 that I've been saving for some odd reason.

Short shells are still long on fun:rotf::rotf:

I tried the ones from Aguila. Several squib loads. Left wad in the barrels.

James Halvorson 11-07-2018 10:40 AM

The partial box of Aguila mini shells I have will remain unfired. The few that I ran through an 870 stuck in the chamber. I believe my particular box to produce higher pressures than I'd fire in a modern firearm. Pounding the empties out with a rod isn't any fun either.

Now that I've been reminded that I have them, I may go after them with a razor knife.

Phillip Carr 11-07-2018 11:37 AM

As mentioned early on I experienced low recoil and zero issues. Possibly they make a high pressure load, but the ones I have fired worked perfectly in two different SXS.

Plus, they are fantastic table fare!!

Bill Murphy 04-17-2019 10:50 AM

My experience with "table fare" is that the shot and primers get stuck in my teeth.

MichaelYacino 04-23-2019 02:31 PM

Aguila still makes these mini-shells. They have them in 7-1/2, 8, and 9 as well as buck shot and slugs. I've broke a few clays with them, but haven't hunted with them (yet, anyway). According to their site, it's a 5/8 oz payload moving at 1200 fps.
