Guns that make you go Hmmm???

Seller is up front as to what it is. T Parker with bad pictures.

3 days to go 27 bids and already over $1000.

John Davis 09-03-2021 06:17 AM

That's a head scratcher for sure.

Stan Hillis 09-03-2021 06:55 AM

Looks like just another Belgian gun attempting to capitalize on a popular American brand name. Much the same as was done with Mantons and J. Mantons attempting to ride the coat tails of Joseph Manton.............. and with W. Richards "copycatting" Westley Richards' name.

Jim DiSpagno 09-03-2021 08:00 AM

A fool and his money.....

Garry L Gordon 09-03-2021 09:17 AM

Hmm...maybe the gun market really is on the upswing.(:rotf:)

there was a Parker family of gun makers in Birmingham long before the American Parkers made shotguns- its my belief that the Belgium's used the English maker's names, Parker, Richards, Manton and others that were common in the export trade to boost their sales.

and by the way the seller notes "We have not fired this rifle."

I was going to list a "real" Parker hammer gun for sale today here on the forum. This may influence my asking price

Brian Dudley 09-03-2021 09:45 AM

There is one bidder in particular who really seems to want it. They all must know something that we don't know. Who knows...
I had a few deals like this earlier in the year. People paying crazy amounts of money for guns that would normally be worth a fraction. You have to take it when you can. It isn't always the case... Good for the seller!

That bidder must have an impressive fireplace that needs ornamentation :)!

Sears sold T. Barker & Thomas Barker hammer guns

1899 with Laminated Steel (Twist)

https://photos.smugmug.com/Gun-Stuff...%201902-XL.png

Interesting 1902 Sears catalog listing is for T. Barker but and the illustration clearly says T. Parker
'Royal Damascus Finish, from Wilson's celebrated steel' would be Faux Damascus

https://photos.smugmug.com/Gun-Stuff...%201902-XL.png

The country of origin requirement started in 1891. Note the different font.

Not very long ago the gun would have been offered at a Gun Show for $150 and sold for $100 by Sunday morning

What is the line? It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so?

Joseph Sheerin 09-03-2021 03:14 PM

Nice Trojan here, was sorta keeping an eye on it, then the price went boom....

Dean Romig 09-03-2021 03:28 PM

Wow! That’s a nice Trojan. The bidding hasn’t even approached its true value.

We have to remember that Ed Muderlak sold his near mint Trojan 12 for a bunch, and it soon resold for almost ten grand. I agree with Dean's price assessment.

Dean Romig 09-04-2021 12:39 PM

I think EDM's was NIB and this one is not, but EDM's I think went for around $12K.

here is another one where the bidders have a surprise coming

https://hessney.hibid.com/lot/100087...steel?q=parker

That was a nice gun! The price it sold at was a great one! A collector would easily pay $1k more.

Drew Hause 09-15-2021 09:31 PM

Rick: Belgian "Cast Steel" could have been several products. I did a composition analysis on one specimen and it was very low carbon non-standard AISI 1002 with a tensile strength less than Bessemer/Decarbonized steel.

Bill Murphy 09-16-2021 09:19 AM

The gunbroker Trojan sold for $1825. Not that much over the top. Nice gun with a couple of misaligned screws. Nice that it didn't have a pad which would have lowered the value by almost $1000. Condition and originality are everything.

Craig Budgeon 09-17-2021 04:19 PM

It took at least two people to reach the price of that T. Parker, maybe more! The seller must be very pleased.

Jay Oliver 09-18-2021 04:32 PM

I looked at that gun on the Hessney auction and I agree, that winner will be disappointed.

I did browse a bit as long as I was there on the auction website. I bid on a percussion 16 gauge sxs that I believe was converted from flintlock to percussion. Anyway I "won" it. If it checks out I will have it converted back to flintlock.
