Parker Lifter firing Pins

Greetings all,
Just picked up a 12 gauge lifter built in 1876 but the left firing pin is broken. Does anyone have a parts gun that they could spare one from? I have the original pin and spring and I could have one made but I would like an original if possible.

Thank you!:)

Brian Dudley has recently taken on making these offset firing pins.

Yes, i have them on hand and ready to ship. Brand new. $30ea.

thaynedelange 05-18-2017 09:37 PM

Thanks for the reply. Do these require any fitting?

thank you!

Brian Dudley 05-19-2017 07:23 AM

Usually not. Possibly a little for length. Varies some from gun to gun.

Save the remains of the broken firing pin to compare to the new one. This comes in handy when having to fit a top lever spring as well.

How do I go about paying? Do you accept credit cards or do I need to send a money order or check?

thanks!

Brian Dudley 05-19-2017 07:03 PM

First step would be to contact me privately and not conduct business on the open forum.

Hey Brian,
The lifter mechanism on this 12 gauge gun does not stay up when the barrels are opened or when you take them off the action. It stays in the fully downward position so when you try and put the barrels back on the action or close the gun you have to press the lifter to get the bolt to retract in order for the action to close. I have a 10 gauge lifter where the lifter stays up when the gun is opened and automatically released when you close the gun. Am I missing a part inside or was there a design change between 1876 and 1882?

thanks for your help.

I have asked a few Parker forum members but no one can tell me what is going on.

Thayne

You were told what is going on in your other thread.

Here it is again... It is either a missing trip, missing trip spring, broken trip or broken trip spring. Or just a gummed up gun in need of a cleaning.

thaynedelange 05-21-2017 10:05 AM

What does the trip look like Brian? I can't find any schematics online. I know the trip spring is just a coil springs but I don't know what the trip is supposed to look like.
Thanks,
Thayne

Austin Hogan did a few post on this as I remember. I'll try to find them.

Thanks for your help!

This is a photo of a hammerless gun, but the hammer guns are the same. The small protrusion in the bottom of the frame (at right) is the trip. The barrel lug pushed down on it when the breech is closed, thus releasing the bolt.

Ok. I see it in my gun. I must be missing the spring or the tip inside is broken off. If I need a new trip do you make them? Can a new tip be welded onto the original?

Brian Dudley 05-21-2017 03:54 PM

Likely the spring is just beat or gummed up.

If you need any parts, i have them.

Could not find Austin's post. It must have been in the Parker Pages.

I went to the Parker Pages link on the main web page and looked in the index and found "Inside a Parker Underlifter by Austin Hogan" printed in 2003; could that be what you are looking for? Non of the other titles seemed to fit but ......?

If you want to look at what Austin wrote in Parker Pages, just follow that Past Parker Pages Index link and then enter 'Ctrl key' and the 'f' key simultaneously (f for find) and a small pop-up box will display and in that box enter his first name (Austin) and every occurrence of Austin will be found and highlighted in the index list. Simply click on either the up or down arrow next to where you typed his name to move to the next entry found.

Our PGCA website is far more powerful(?) than most people know. Thanks Robin.

Problem is most members don't fully go through the PGCA home page and use the links. They would rather just ask questions on the discussion forum, therefore we keep answering the same questions over and over again.

I want to thank everyone especially Brian Dudley for his help. I took the gun apart and the trip was covered in dried goop. The spring was fine but was also covered in gunk. The gun work great now and locks up tight as a drum. Except for needing the left firing pin, the gun is good to go. I will get that ordered from Brian. I love this site! Thanks again.

How did you remove your firing pins? I can’t get mine out...

thaynedelange 12-08-2018 10:29 PM

Once you remove the retaining screw you can wiggle them out.

Michael Boyd 12-08-2018 10:51 PM

Thanks all. I got em out and have now to replace one firing pin and both retainers. I’m not even sure if the retainers on there are Parker brother made even... so, anyone have retainers for sale I’m certainly interested.

Brian Dudley 12-09-2018 07:11 PM

By the sound of things, you may not have had original bushings in that gun.
