Now I know some would rather rather watch Fox news 24/7 and get all worked up but when you come down, here are some interesting photos.

Nice! Thanks Bruce, gary

Thanks Bruce
Engraved shields are too uncommon. And when you do see them engraved, there is no way to decipher them. I wish that was a software program that you could enter the 3 initials and it would give you names that match. I'm sure NSA has one. |
Very nice Bruce and "Turnip Farmer" of the Gloden Fleece.
Of the initials displayed on those shields and caps are the corresponding names known? . |
My DH 10 had an engraved shield, but the engraving was too worn out when it came into my possession. I have a good mind to get it re-engraved in a period correct manner.
Very cool and thanks for sharing these photos |

AH 12ga
Many are aware of the significance of the name Fletcher in the history of the United States Navy. |

That's very nice Bruce. I think Rear Admiral Thomas Perry may have been a bit more conservative in his choice of graded Parkers - in 1908 he chose a 20 gauge DH.

Lovely wood and a historically significant gun.
Is the butt plate horn? |

Thank you Bruce.
No, that's a very nicely done leather covered pad that Abe Chaber did for me. When I bought the gun the stock had been cut and a horrible recoil pad had been poorly installed. I have no clue where the skeleton butt plate went to, but it did have one originally. . |
i enjoy looking at these and wonder what great stories could come from them...charlie

neat! looked at a DH in a gun shop yesterday and it had an engraved shield. we were unable to decipher the engraving. When the owner has his name or initials engraved own the shield of a Parker its shows pride of ownership.

Bruce,Thanks for sharing the pictures of the engraved Parker badges & shields, enjoy looking at engraving on firearms. J.J.

George P., you can get information on prominent three initial persons on google. One site list them in alphabetical order. Very useful. I have pinned down shooters by comparing initials to names from older ATA and Interstate Association records. It helps to know where the gun came from when using the trapshooting records, but not neccesary.

The only gun I have with an engraved oval is one of my HJ Hussey Imperials. Trying to track down the family to which the crest belongs in hopes of finding for whom the gun was built. The motto translates to "I shall be given to he who perseveres."

Here's another one.

Thanks Wayne- that reminds me I have a two barrel DHE with an engraved shield for a fellow in Lacon, Illinois and the order reflects that.
It is on consignment with Steve Barnett. Maybe Steve will send me a picture. I bought the gun from Oscar Gaddy. |

My great grandfathers DHE (1907) 12 ga has a shield with his initials and address. The initials are JCM for J C Mabrey of Albia, IA.

Wayne, is the gun you picture Dr. Kales' single barrel #235,793? If so, PM me so we can discuss.

Seeing all these shields engraved pushed me to have it done on a modern Parker that will stay in the family as a waterfowling gun.
The Duck is an American Eider and below are beach dunes and native sea grass- just like the places I hunt in Pleasant Bay. The Eider was copied from the 1957-8 Federal Duck Stamp below. Thanks to Dean Romig for the suggestion of a place to look for models. The shield now has to get worn and muddied and bloodied. |
George, that is so nice.
|
Awesome George! That Romig guy can up with some good ideas every once in a while..
|
Wonderful. Hunt geese in the field and you'll expedite the weathering process. Sea ducks even more so. And think of the fun you will have along the way.

When asked to engrave stock badges or shields it's game birds, woodcock, quail grouse or hunting dogs witch I enjoy engrave. J.J.
|
When you say 'modern Parker' George, are you referring to a Parker Reproduction?
|
