great, I am still amazed where these finds occur.

My friend knows exactly nothing about shotguns - or any kind of guns for that matter - so what questions I want to ask him about it will not be asked. My questions will be answered later this week when I have it in hand. I promise I'll post pictures. The barrels are 30" just as the book reports them to be.

You're a lucky guy today Mr.Roming.

Congrats.

I was told there was an "Engraved Parker Shotgun with Outside Hammers" being shopped around Brimfield, last week for $1500. Was this it?

Dean Romig 07-16-2012 07:31 AM

Not by the price I paid. Maybe somebody else bought it and flipped it right away... who knows???
I don't even know where my friend found it.

I hope it works out for you Dean. If it does your next adventure will be reloading and you will enjoy the performance of the 10 and economy and flexibility of reloading for it.

I received the gun this afternoon and I like it a lot. The only problem I find (other than the buggered hammer screws and the missing screw on the side of the SKBP) is the fact that someone had used the wrong method to clean the crud from the metal surfaces and succeeded in polishing the finish off the Damascus barrels and any remaining case color from the entire frame. It also appears that he cleaned the wood a bit and oiled the wood nicely without overdoing it.
It is a 1875 gun, Grade 3, Skeleton Steel Butt Plate, 2-Frame (1 1/8" between firing pins), 14 LOP, 2 3/4" DAH, 2" DAC, 30 3/16" barrels (book says 30") checkering in very nice condition, locks up tight and solid (no wiggle even with forend off) Chokes haven't been touched, a few rusty patches in the bores but no pitting.... and it fits me very nicely.

Pics.
