It’s hard to believe, but this year marks the 10th Annual L.C. Smith vs. Parker Bros. Challenge Cup! To be held April 26th through the 28th at Deep River Sporting Clays, Sanford, NC. As of last year, he score stands at PGCA six and LCSCA three. This will also be the 7th Annual Hammer Gun Challenge, LCSCA six – PGCA zero (Ouch).

Last year in the Challenge Cup there were a total of 106 shooters (64 Smith – 42 Parker) and for the Hammer Gun Challenge the total was 45 shooters (32 Smith – 13 Parker). Plan now to participate in one or both events, we need to improve on our participation in 2013, and let’s get out the hammer guns and try to win one. If you don’t have a hammer gun, don’t let that stop you, there will be plenty available to buy or borrow.

Qualifying for the Challenge Cup (Event One) begins on Friday around noon, and continues Saturday until everyone that wants to participate has had a chance. Entry fee is $10.00, plus current membership in the PGCA. Target fees apply in addition to the entry fee and are $15.00 for each 30 target round.

Challenge Cup Rules: http://www.parkerguns.org/pages/ChallengeRules.html#Challenge Rules

For Event One each participant will shoot 60 targets, two (2) rounds of thirty (30) targets each, to be shot back-to-back on two separate 5-stand layouts. LCSCA and PGCA members will shoot on the same squads, with the organization represented by each participant noted on their registration form. Sign-up and squad assignment will be done in the same manner as last year. If you did not participate last year, please be sure to read the rules for this procedure carefully.

The Challenge Cup Teams for Event Two will be the top 10 shooters from each collectors association. This event is another 30 target event on a re-configured 5-Stand, with the Challenge Cup winner determined by the total score out of the possible 300 targets for each team.

Sunday morning is set aside for the Hammer Gun Challenge. Entry and target fees are the same as Event One of Challenge Cup. The simplified format calls for the total of the 10 best scores from each association to be used to determine the winner of the Hammer Gun Challenge Cup.

There are individual awards for the Top Gun, Runner-Up, 3rd Place, and 4th Place in the Challenge Cup, as well as High Lady and High Junior. These are awarded based on individual score, regardless of which make gun is used. Top Gun and Runner-Up awards are also given in the Hammer Gun Challenge Cup.

The PGCA continues to award our shooter with the highest score in the Challenge Cup, shooting a composite steel barrel gun, the Oscar Gaddy Award. If you are going to shoot a gun with composite barrels in the competition, be sure to note this on your sign-up sheet.

Volunteers are needed to help staff the event sign-up table in the Parker/LC Smith tent. Please come by the table and sign up to donate an hour or two over the 3-day event. We don’t want anyone to be stuck at the table and miss out on all the activities available at Deep River – so, the more the merrier.

Thanks,
Carl Brandt

Just a reminder:

The tent that is provided to us at the Southern SxS is for our use and and the display of guns of interest and information. The display of guns for sale is reserved for vendors that have purchased a table for that purpose. The private sale of guns and merchandise at the show is not in any way prohibited. In respect for the great relationship that exists between Deep River, the vendors and our organization, please do not set up displays for sale.
