I had one of our own make me a stock for my 16ga lifter. The original stock LOP was only 13 inches so I had Brain Dudley make me a stock. Now the LOP is 14 inches and a DAH of 2-1/2. And while I was at it I got the butt checkered. I think the guy did a damn good job!! Now I can't wait till Sat. to take her out.

That is very nice, I would have done a couple things different, it's your gun. Brian, that is a job to be proud of. Dave

David, what would you have done differently? This is the first one I had done and maybe I can improve on the next one.

I would have used fancier wood on the restock, because all parkers deserve it. IMHO. And I shoot my guns alot and find checkered butts are to slippery to keep on shoulder for the secound shot. If that is your first restock, you have one to be proud of Angel. Dave

You're right about the fancier wood and I guess I'll find out about the checkered butt on Sat. What about the plain metal butt plate, won't that be just as slippery??

I personally like the look of the old style recoil pads like Tony sells, or a red head pad with the duck. Dave

Angel, is that a 1 or 2 frame? Looks like fun to me. Dave

Angel,
Great looking gun and nice stock job by Brian. I shoot checkered butts and skeletal buttplates regularly and the key to keeping them on your shoulder is pitch. If the pitch is wrong even a rubber pad will slip down after the first barrel.

Brian, you did a wonderful job on that gun. The hammer guns are the hardest Parkers to restock because of that darn top tang.

You're right Charlie. Once she's on my shoulder all that matter is the shot.

Angel thats a nice job of restocking. I have had several restocked and never regretted it as now I shoot them because they fit. I have several with the checkered butt & sometimes they will slip a little esp if you use the gun a lot (the Hollywood gun) and may need to have the butt recheckered in the future.

I have a 16ga lifter thats in the 13K serial range and she's short but i use a slip on pad.

I have a VHE 16ga skeet that going to need to be restocked someday and it's good to see Brian's excellent work. Good on you for keeping the work in the PGCA family.

Thanks Rich. I thougth it would be nice to give the business to a fellow PGCA member. When he becomes famous I can brag about having some of his early work:)

Angel,

Thanks for sharing the work that was done on your 16g. This was a great little gun to work on. And that 0 frame is light! This one has the milled out water table, by the way.

The objective that Angel and I came to was to stock the gun in the exact style of the original, just in an approprate length and drop for Angel to shoot. Also, to put on a piece of wood that was approprate for the grade of gun.
The checkered butt was Angel's suggestion when we were talking about what to do for a buttplate. The original steel one on that short stock was not very tall and would have possibly not looked right on a longer stock. Angel figured that if we had to do something different with the buttplate, then lets leave it wood.

I like the checkered butt and have restocked a CHE 20 with one. My current project has heel and toe plates, we will see how that turns out. I thought I'd try something different for a change.

The key to keeping them on your shoulder is pitch. If the pitch is wrong even a rubber pad will slip down after the first barrel.

Pitch will probably help keep the butt from slipping but it must really mess up a nice shooting vest or jacket.. what removes it from your clothing, turpentine?

Only if you use the wrong pitch....

Brian is working on a DH 10 for me right now. It is probably going to be an ongoing project, but our current goal is to get it shored up and working so it can be shot.

Angel, I don't think you can improve over the last stock job Brian did for you, despite what some people on here say.

Mills I could not be happier with my stock. The butt plate idea is for another stock he will be making when I decide to have it done. He nows what I meant when I asked him to take notice.

I can't wait to see photos when you have that done. Brian is rehabilitating a stock for me as we speak.
