Replacing Firing Pin on Hammer gun

I bought 2 firing pins from Dave Purnell a PGCA Life member for $35.00 each.
He told me how easy it is to replace them and I did replace one today. It is easier than he explained and they worked perfectly. He makes them and they are a work of art. If any of you even think you may need one or two in the future, he is the person to get them from. I have never seen any one else have them for sale. They are made out of modern metal . My Parker was made in 1879. Serial number 16316, 12 Ga 28 inch original length. My firing pin was not broken, just wanted to have the new ones.

I need firing pin spring suppose Dave got those. Whats the chances of getting that firing pin nipple screw (don't know proper name) out. ch

The top action firing pins are easier to remove than those on lifters. In either case, clean well around the screw , and use a scriber or other hard point to clean the screwdriver slot. File or grind the screw driver to get a square tight fit in the slot.
I am not sure who may have springs, but they are coiled wire and can be wound if you have the original as a guide.

The spring , by the way does not go over the firing pin it sits beside it. The one in my 1879 under lifter is not as strong looking as the one in the picture. The picture is great. I dont think Dave Purnell makes springs.

When I needed new springs on my lifter, we cut down a winchester rifle spring and it worked just fine. I hope the new pin are hardened, the new ones I had made were not and they bent (after about 1000 rounds).

Springs can be bought at most industrial supply houses.Just measure the wire diameter,outside diameter and free(uncompresed) length and have at it.

Don't know if it applies here but I've had great success using springs from ballpoint pens. Just cut to length and install.

I did not buy dave’s stock. He was making them to order basically. He just gave me permission to go ahead and start offering them since he was wanting out of it.
