I talked to Rick Hemingway last week and they are providing PGCA with our own tent. They have also agreed to let Tom Carter put his camper next to it as a hospitality center- Rick is Good People

Dave is the man. I hope he knows what a PGCA hospitality vehicle is expected to provide.

Bill
Actually Tom Carter is the Man! This was his doing, spent some good money getting the camper as new, and I would not be surprised if there were some appropriate refreshments aboard. Tom also just got in the trophy's for the Parker Champion shoot and wait to you see the engraving on that!! The BOD is going all out to make this the best annual meeting yet. Y'all come on down!!!
David

Gary
Contact Josh to reserve a table. I have reserved an RV space for you .

Bill Murphy

An RV space for Gary may tax Rick Hemingway's 15,000 acres. Tom, apologies for giving Dave credit for the hospitality vehicle.

I live one hour from Back Woods and I know Rich Hemingway. Plus I'm a member there.
It's a great place and have shot there many times. I plan on being there for the annual meeting. Bring your gun and shoot SC, 5 stand or hunt it's a great place.

Word to the wise, I called the 800 number to the Quality Inn and they said our block was sold out and there were only 3 rooms left starting at $89.99. We booked at the Jameson Inn next door and saved a few bucks.

Well, I took a trip down to Ricks Back Woods Quail facility Thursday to see if I could get My Motorhome in to the spaces. Was I surprised, Fantastic place plenty of room and it has to be one of the premiere shooting facilites in the South. It is 18 miles to Georgetown, short drive, I was able to take a tour and was impressed! Rick says they are hosting something almost every week. I think every one will be pleased, Gary

As Gary found out when he inquired about space to park his enormous motor home, Rick could park several 757s and still have room for 10,000 cars. This isn't the Spring Southern.

I think Backwoods is one ,if not the finest, SC course in the country!! If you like to shoot this is the place.

Alright, nothing like waiting to the last minute, but I booked my rooms tonight and will see you all in Georgetown. I was still able to get in at the Quality Inn under the parker rate, so if you haven't booked yet, it's not too late.

When do the festivities start? is everyone going down on Thursday or Friday?

Dave, I'll be mailing you a check tomorrow for my banquet ticket, so please save me a seat. Dean, Larry, I'll just ask that you guys don't bring me the check for THIS dinner.

Mike, were you able to get a non-smoking or a smoking room?

I had a significant amount of trouble getting a non-smoking room just a few days ago.

Hey Dean,

I called and talked to "Benny" tonight, and she was very helpful. Called the main number as others suggested in this post. She looked up the PGCA room block and confirmed that she still had rooms available at the $62 rate. She asked me for smoking or non, and I chose non-smoking. There didn't seem to be any issues. It's a single room with two double beds. One for me, and one for my DHE. :D

Well, I will not be taking the 747 down all my boys backed out and it is foolish to drive the bus down with just me in it. So, I booked a room, courtesy of Tom Carter, at the Quality Tuesday all they had left were smoking rooms, so they are fast running out of rooms! By the way I asked if the room reeked of cigarette smoke, the lady said she did not think so, the gentleman that had the room prior to me was named Bill something and he had a box of cigars and two women with him, go figure! Sorry I am going to miss the fun, but to choose between being in the woods shooting real birds (if I ever see one) to shooting clays, well I guess you know what I will decide... You guys have fun

Bill Murphy

Eric, I'll be taking a short bank of manual pigeon traps and a cage of birds from our October shoot. Come on down.

Just a word to those attending the upcoming Fall Southern. Talking with Morris Baker of RST at this years Vintagers event he informed me that RST will not be in attendance at Backwoods selling their wares. Rick Hemingway has an ample supply of standard velocity shells at Backwoods. Those that desire Low Pressure ammo are advised to make sure you get them before heading to Backwoods

Larry, definitely bring four cases. What you don't shoot you can leave with me so you don't have to haul them back home! Looking forward to seeing you. It's going to be a great time for all who attend!

4-5 cases? I guess I need to step up production. I thought I was doing well to get 2 1/2 cases loaded this weekend, including my first attempt at some 2 1/2 16ga loads. Dave, thanks again for posting about the absence of RST.

I think about the time of the meeting they will be in Wisc. or Minn and then swing back through Mich. Again clay birds vs real birds that is the question:whistle: I take real birds, sorry but they cook better then those clay ones.....:rotf:

For those who have never attended the event, how does the challenge work, the qualifying, etc? What gauges are permitted, etc.

David Dwyer
10-22-2012, 06:32 PM
The qualifying for this challenge is:you can shoot the five stand as many times as you want, telling them you are a Parker Bros shooter . Your highest score is counted and the five highest scores comprise the Parker team. The team is composed of the three highest scores, the highest female shooter and the highest youth shooter. That team then shoots against the Smith team at 3PM Sat. A bit complicated but this is how Rick Hemingway set it up.
David

George M. Purtill
10-22-2012, 06:45 PM
So its 5 stand and not clays like the Parker Fox challenge.

David Dwyer
10-23-2012, 08:24 AM
George
It is five stand like the Parker Smith challenge at Deep River in April
