I've got a very late VHE that's a tad loose with the forearm off. Would this looseness be tightened up by replacing the wear plate, or does it require the hooke to be built up? Thanks. PS. If it is the wear plate, where might I find a pinned one for a VHE with a 1.5 frame?

The Parker name for the part is "bolt plate" . Operation with the lever left of center is fine, but the bolt plate needs to be replaced when the lever is full left and there is up and down looseness of the barrels on the action. If the play is fore and aft, the wear is in the guide roll or the barrel lug front end. The guide pin can be pressed out and a new guide installed on the roll ( hinge pin), although the more common fix today is to add material and recontour the lug front hook semi-circle.

Looseness can be minor or excessive, and many of us are not bothered by a small amount of looseness if the barrels are tight against the face when the forend is on.

Call Galazan for a new bolt plate, although it will have to be stoned and/or filed to fit.

Continuous shooting of a gun that is not on face will accelerate the looseness rather quickly. Best to determine exactly where the problem lies and get it to the doctor.

Good copy on that Dean. I actually have only shot the gun twice and that was during the inspection period. I'll be taking it up to my doublegunsmith in Pa in the next week or to for him to take a look at.

My gunsmith looked it over last Thursday and said it is indeed on face. The problem is the bolt plate. Much easier fix then the other he said. He will contact Galazan and get a replacement and install it. Makes me happier indeed that the fix is so simple.
