While I was at the not so local shotgun store today making a purchase I happened to spy this here Parker gun sitting forlornly on the wall.Well,It turned out to be Parker Delux backaction serial number 273. 12 bore with rebounding locks believe it or not, checkered stock and forend, decarbonized steel barrels. The gun retains about 50-60-percent case colors on the frame and steel buttplate. Sorry for the poor pictures I used my cell phone. And no I didn,t buy it..

Okay Dave, you've got to go back there with a real camera.
It could be the same one I saw four or five years ago at a gun show five miles from my home. It too had a three digit serial number beginning with a 2. I'll have to dig through my notes - I wrote down everything I found on the flats & water tables. The seller told me it was the next serial number gun after the back action gun in either the NRA or the Buffalo Bill display.

And my partner almost walked out with a nice 03-A4 complete with the original Redfield scope..in fact he still may buy it.

Dave let me just reiterate your statements to see if I have this correct.
A) You find a delux back action hammer gun with 50-60% case color.
B) You don't buy it because you have just purchased a Trojan 20

My conclusion is this is an example of a true Pollock as you left the gun AND you had an empty hand (attached to an arm I assume) to carry it with:eek::duck:

I don,t think I would shoot a backaction with decarbonized steel barrels.:nono:

Nobody said you had to shoot it, thats not the point.

Actually Rich, the real point was the asking price on the back-action.

On the subject of early lifters, I remembered I had photographed Parker No. 43 when I visited the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody WY a few years ago. I believe the contoured grip is a factory add-on allowing for the choice of a straight grip or modified pistol grip.

Dean,Did that gun have a schneibal(sic.) type forend?I looks a little odd to me.

No, it's a rather poor picture but what you're looking at is the black plastic sheathed hanger just like the one behind the trigger guard. It has a normally shaped key-latch splinter forend.
