10 gauge 2 5/8 Loads

Hi Guys
I have not been around for abit, Anyway I was thinking about getting my short ten out for some Clay shoooting. it is bored for 2 7/8 but would like to use some shorter shells for the clays. Does anyone have any2 5/8 loads that are suitable for clays.

Please see member J.B. Books thread on this. He has assembled an extensive list of 2 & 7/8" loads that with a 1/4" reduction in wadding should work fine in 2 & 5/8" loads.

Be advised that any change could raise or lower pressure.

In the Short Tens fiber wadding is usually used as space filler in the plastic shot cup. Removing some of the wadding should be okay. If in doubt, reduce the powder charge by a grain and/or add a roll crimp. Both should lower pressure. If you select a load at 6000 psi even if pressure raises by 500 to 1000 psi if your gun is in good condition thate should be no problem.

Do not reduce the powder charge too much for that can cause some sort of pre-detonation in the barrel. I need more coffee before getting into that subject.

Probably the biggest pressure mistake people make concerning pressure in in substituting primers. A "hot" promr can raise pressure by 1500 or more PSI!!! Send me a PM with your email and I'll send you Sherman Bell's primer pressure analysis.

Another pressure spiker is to crimp the heck out of a shell. Changes in crimps. i.e. the world's strongest crimp... can cause the chamber pressure to raise dramatically!

Finally if your crimps are not perfect because there is not quite enough shot in the column add a Cheerio or piece of popcorn as filler. Those shoudl self distruct when the powder ignites!

I use a piece of Polish peanut (packing material) as filler to adjust the shot column height as it is compressible if I cut off a bit too much.

Hey jack,

That stuff may be as good as 16 gauge fiber wads as filler and a lot cheaper!!!
