Don't know of Ithaca ever making anything larger than 10-bores. But they seriously pushed 10-bores in the 1920s and 30s, which A.H. Fox never did, and by that time L.C. Smith had quit 10-bores.

Don't know about the 8 gauge Ithaca's but I have an Ithaca 10 gauge 2 7/8" with fluid steel barrels .

The barrels were re rust blued maybe 35 years ago as well as the wood being refinished .

My father bought the gun maybe 36 years ago . And we've never fired it . May have to shoot a round of trap with it in the semi near future .

I will say this though .

That Ithaca has nowhere near as nice a feel as my W&C Scott 10 gauge !

I seem to remember one of the big gun writers of the day (Keith maybe?) Who said the Ithaca 10 was the most automatic double shotgun he had fired. When you pulled the front trigger, the back trigger followed and then the gun opened and ejected the shells.

I think a design change followed his review. Now I need to see if I can find that.

i bet that automatic 10 double barrel was a hand full....yes the ithaca 10 magnum is what kept the interest alive in the big guns...always wanted one of these old magnum 10 ithacas but the closeest thing i have is the mag 10 auto... charlie

Nope!! The story of the gun where he loaded both barrels, put the safety on, and pulled the trigger was about a Super-Fox. When he pulled the trigger, the safety went forward, both barrels fired, the gun opened and ejected the fired shells over his shoulder.

Elmer did write of having to get the rotary bolt in his NID Magnum-Ten, serial number 500000, refitted twice over the course of the years he used it.

My Ithaca Trap Gun !

The woods been redone and the pad replaced . When we got it the pad had caved in and the stock had had a leather pad brass tacked to it and the leather was about worn thru .

Yeah I have a couple LeFever's as well !
I assume thats what you were speaking of in a single barrel ?

Have several old single Iver Johnson's as well as a IJ 410 double .

My current short 10 load is a ounce and a quarter of shot . And in my two guns it's rather pleasent to say the least .

I have a 16 gauge Kettner with fluid steel barrels that are 30" F&F that I need to try on the trap field as well . Although this one has no pad and isn't heavy . But my friend has a killer 7/8 ounce load for the 16 that I'll try in the Kettner as well as my drillings soon I hope !

Now thats a thought !

If I'm able to make the late season trip to Arkansas this coming season I might just take a drilling for the piggies !

I happen to have a rather nice hammer drilling in 16x16x10.75-65R Collath !

boy thats one fine lookin drilling...got more artwork than all my guns put together...ive always admired the work put into the drillings....there lite graceful heck there just about perfect in all ways....i took 4 deer this year with my drilling its a 16 x16 with7x57r rifle got eagle claw mounts and a scope its nice but really ruins the graceful lines in my eyes anyway...craig your gun is really nice take it pig hunting soon...slug in left barrel buckshot in the right and that big old rifle under neath for those big piggies..... charlie
