410 hammer 2 barrel set

I just got back my Acme Arms 410 hammer from the stock maker and man it is starting to look like a keeper.One set of barrels is damascus the other is steel. I got this from a man here in Idaho that the gun was given to him when he was a boy.He lived next door to a orchard and the lady hired him to shoot birds for her.When she reliazed that he was using his bb gun she said that she had somthing that would work better and let him use this gun. I guess she told him to just keep it. Well he is heading towards 80 so he had it quite some time and now I'm the proud owner.When I got it it had no stock so I rounded one up similar and sent it to Randy in Nissa Oregon and he made this one.I now have to get the barrels done and a couple minor things on the reciever taken care of and should be good to go. you got her lookin good would be a keeper if it were mine...not to many 410s of any kind with 2 barrel sets...what are the lenth of the barrels...always wanted a 410 with 28 or 30 inch barrels... charlie

Charlie: Both of the barrels are 26 inch.It is going to be my rabbit and squirrel gun.It is not to far away from being done. Thanks Thomas

does it shoot the 3 inch shell.. i have a little 410 hammer gun similar to yours but its got the 2 1/2 inch chambers..i should said my grand daughters i gave it to her..i think hers is an american arms gun very petite gun 18 inch factory barrels looks like a small kids toy gun.... charlie

Charlie: I bet your American and my Acme doubles are built by the same maker. You could get quite afew names on guns in those days.It is also 2 1/2 inch shells.I don't see very many at gun shows so I think they are scarse little guns although the quality isn't that great they sure are cool. Thomas

I had a chance to buy one several years ago but it was pretty rough so I passed. That's the only one I've ever touched, they are rare for certain. I've always wondered if they were really .410 guns or if they were actually made to take the metal .44 XL shot cartridge.

The H&D Folsom agent in Belgium, at least through 1914, was Louis Muller of Liege. Muller may have actually been in the employ of Folsom as he registered the Crescent trade marks in Belgium. He was also a gun maker and registered twelve trademarks 1889 to 1894 including: Acme, Club, Climax, Star, Rival, Standard, Meteor, and I.X.L.

Drew: I had never really looked that close to the bottom of the barrels and sure enough right on the bottom of both barrels is the no. 44. I took some differant shells that i have and tryed them. The 410 2 1/2 inch doesn't work but the 36 cal.Rottweil,44 xl,44-40 all fit great. So it looks like I will have to try to find the Rottweil 36 it looks like it will be the mostlikly easy to find. Thomas

i envey you with all them choices in that little 410... squirls to deer all in one pakage... that was some good info on the 44 cateridge.... i may have to try this info in my single barrel cannon breach... charlie

The article linked by Drew mentions a round ball .44 load. I have a hand full of those in two brands, Peters and WRA. The WRA shells are labelled ".44 GG", the GG designating use in the .410 bbl of the Marbles Gamegetter, which we had. The Peters don't have the GG headstamp but are the same round ball load. Full boxes of these GG rounds come up on the auction sites.

Richard: The bottom cartridge in the picture is a U. M. C. 44-40 and it seems to fit good but I think I will stick with the Rottweil 36. Thomas

Good Choice Thomas. I'd bet it's pretty effective, especially if it has the square leading edge. I use nothing but Rottweils in my 20ga Deerslayer because they 'punch' a hole and put a deer down right now.
