I'm trying to duplicate a 16 guage 2 3/4 drams DuPont 7/8 once load. So I guess I need to know how fast a 2 3/4 black powder 7/8 once load shoots f.p.s. Once I know the speed of the black load then any load I make at that speed will be drams equivalant correct? ch

Calvin, I think you will need to do a little research on this. Some black powders and Pyrodex have different burn/pressure rates. Also the grain designations result in different pressures ie: 3F,2F etc. Paul Harm has alot of experience with black hopefully he will chime in here.

Good point Dave we need to know what the F size they loaded with in the day. But if we use 1f powder anything but Swiss it should be at the bottom end of speed. Has anybody cronagraphed 2 3/4 drams 1f Black 7/8 oz of shot 16 guage. I'm not intrested in Pyrodex. I'm trying to see if my load is close to the load in "The small bore shotgun by Parker Bros". ch

Although your load is not on the chart, the chart would extrapolate at about 1230 for your load. The truth is that you don't need to go to a 2 3/4 dram equivalent with 7/8 ounce loads. You are better to go back to about 2 1/4 dram equivalent to achieve a better balanced load unless you are going for the gold. If you are going for the gold, in other words box pigeons or high ducks, you would be better advised to add to your shot load rather than your powder.

Thanks for the help. With Bill's estimate the load a fellow member gave me is right with Parkers recomandation. Try it on Doves soon.
