View Full Version : Garmin TT15 Collar

I'm not sure if this is the right Forum, but I have a question about my Garmin TT15 GPS collar. I love this set-up and it is one of the best investments I could have made for my English Setter, Beau.

I work Beau out about every night after work, mostly on my farm here in SC Kentucky. I turn him out with his collar while I've got the transmitter, and just let him go wide open for as long as the heat or my time permits!

But on Friday, I went to power up his collar, and it was totally dead. When I had last took it off him, all was good, but Friday, no dice. The transmitter is fine, but I can get nothing out of the collar. Charged it all night Friday. Still nothing on Saturday or Sunday. Nothing again tonight after work. It is completely dead. I press the on/off button, and no reaction.

Has anybody ever had issues with this style collar? I think I'll call the guys at Gun Dog Supply or Garmin, but before I drop $300 on a new collar, just thought I'd check with my Parker colleagues to see if anyone has had issues with these collars in the past. If so, what was the resolution?

Dave fo you have the charging clip style like the one I have posted a picture of?
If so take a brass brush and clean the 5 or six small cantacts were the charging clip
Pins match up on the collar. You will see one of the contacts at one end of the collar mating area that is really dark. Clean all contacts special attention to the dark one.
Attach your charging clip. It should light up and take a charge.
This has happened to me more times that I can remember.

Never had a problem with the two three-collar sets we have and have used for several years now. If Phil's fix does not work for you and you do contact GDS or Garmin, could you follow-up with a report in case any of us have similar problems in the future.

I assume cleaning the collar contacts did not fix your charging problem. I am not sure how old your collar is but the battery may be bad. You can buy a replacement for about $40.00.
Sometimes if there are other issues Garmin has replaced / exchanged a the collar for a discounted price.

Phil, I owe you a fine Kentucky bourbon if/when our paths ever cross in the future. Your suggested fix of cleaning the contacts on the charging clip was right on. I gently used a small brass brush on them and on the mating contact points on the collar battery unit. I then cleaned them all up with a rag moistened with WD-40, and plugged the whole rig in. And Voila - I'm back in business! Thank you, thank you!

I do think that, as you also suggested, I am going to proactively purchase a replacement battery, based on your recommendation and a tech specialist, Paul, from GDS. My unit is a 2017 version, so I may be on borrowed time with the battery anyway. We are too close to hunting season to not be prepared to replace it, if necessary.

Dave I’m glad that worked for you.
Yes if our paths cross it would be a pleasure to have that drink.
My hunting partners and I carry a brass brush in our collar bag.
I also usually carry my small cross Point screw driver in my bag with a spare battery for both the hand held and collar.
I have never had a battery fail in the field, but I have carried some collars home with me in order to replace batteries that are weak no longer lasting the day.

I thought I heard somewhere the batteries last about 5 years? Phil has a good idea, I think I will purchase an extra battery for each. I purchased my tt 115 in 2018.
