If I'm counting right 26 more days... tick, tock, tick, tock...

10 birds and 12 empty hulls. Never shot doves, but I'd say that's pretty good.

Rich, Eric, and I will be chasing Grouse and drinking beer in 43 days. :)

Hey Dave, grouse are pretty scarce around here now but at least I won't have to wait 43 days to have a beer.:rotf:

The 1st is the magic day for me as well, but it will be geese here in Michigan hopefully. Then it's home for doves on the first weekend, then back for geese in Canada on the 10th. Then it's opening day for ducks in Canada on the 26th and things really get rolling.

Sheessh.. If there was any choice - I'd always opt for being out hunting rather than looking at fine doubles I could never afford.. ;) Actually - Dave's post had me look at dove hunting - and since I've never hunted dove..

Hmmm... ;)

Dean,

I'd just rather shoot ducks than clay birds, the visiting with folks is nice but I can do that in the spring when it's not hunting season. Plus I'm meeting Don and Russ on the evening of the 27th for a week in Quebec so Vintagers really just isn't an option this year.

September 6th here in Ga. In the background of the photo is the " Little dove field behind the house". My brother and I were talking the other day and are pretty sure this year will be the 50th year of shooting on this same field.

Dave, I am just going out the door to go check on my honey hole dove pond and decided to log
on first. I am like you, it will be a great week. JVANB

John you sound a little jealous....no wisky in the OJ this am???

I'll wait the 43 days for chaseing Grouse but a cold beer...NEVER:bigbye:

I'd use an icon at the bottom of the page but thats another feature that to this day eludes me....more progress I guess.:duck:

I like dove hunting because I don't have to get up early!!! If you have a good spot its great fun. The dogs have a fun time too, its good practice for marking and retrieving.

John,

Dove hunting is a gentleman's sport for certain, if you don't get into the field any earlier than say 2pm you've not missed much. If you want to try the morning flight, they start about daylight and move for an hour or so. I prefer to wait till afternoon when they fly for a couple hours.

This will be the 61st year for the hunt I've been invited to. I think I started retrieving there in 1954. If I get lucky my afternoons will be full for the first two weeks of the season and "work" (dove hunting) every weekend till the season closes.

Collins you are officially the most well connected dove hunter I know. I'm lucky to get my opening day invite every year.....
