In Red Hook, NY, Saturday night. They have a bunch of so-so guns, and this nice SC

Nice. Except for the two Parkers, a high percentage of the other guns in the auction have the original butt plates!! Marlin Model 90, Three-Barrel Gun Co. 12 x 12 x .32-40, 1925 L.C. Smith Field Grade, American Gun Co. 12-gauge hammer gun, etc.

Thanks, Edgar, for posting this. So, do you think it will bring what they estimate. I have no clue about SBT guns, but from what little I've seen, that estimate seems a bit...ambitious. But the condition, and the, at least for me, unusual half grip make it a very nice example.

I agree the estimate is ambitious but the bidders will tell us it’s value, considering of course the 23.5% buyer’s premium...

So if it hammers at $4k the buyer will have to shell out close to $5k including shipping.

Looks like a crack in the for-end wood at the metal or possibly a scratch. Not one of the real early ones, no plug for access to the firing pin found on the real early guns. Thats a strange looking goose on my later gun. What did it sell for ?

The SC hammered at $3000, however, there seems to be some very irregular results thus far. I was high bidder on the Model 12, but it was awarded to a much lower bid. another member placed his bid at 8:30 this morning, and it was more than 50% over the hammer on the 32"GH. He's been in contact with the hosting service, and they asked if he was willing to go to his max bid, perhaps they could convince the "winner" to let it go. There's things that make me go hmmm, and then there's things that smell funny and make me go Ahem.

Sounds a bit (intentionally) skewed, as in crooked.

Nothing skewed or underhanded. Just a crappy Proxy Service. The Proxy-server that George Cole is signed up with is Liveauctioneers.com. When an interested party signs up to bid in the auction, his bidding limit is assigned, and it seems to be random, and discriminatory. I was given a bidding limit of $2000, and was (very much) later told if I wanted a higher limit to contact the 'auctioneer' ahead of time. Presumably you would then have to give a credit card. Apparently the only way you would know beforehand, was in a confirmation email, which I never saw. So much for having an 843 credit rating.

With the exception of the SC, I knew all these guns, and was only interested in the Model 12, but another member, wanted the 32" GH, and was given a $1000 max credit. Both he and I gave George both barrels (see what I did there?) and he said Liveauctioneers cost him a LOT of money. I do know a bidder who wanted the SC and was prepared to go some, and he signed up a few hours before the auction went live, and was given a $2000 limit (the gun was already at $2500) and he said @#$%^& it and walked away.

George Cole Bought these guns. They weren't consigned. The internet bidding starting bids were his cost, rather than using the confusing term "reserve". Nothing wrong with that. My bid wasn't recognized by the proxi for some yet-to-be-explained reason, but George told me the following day that he saw it. I bought the gun from him at an amount halfway between the live auction starting amount and my high bid. I do not know if anyone else bid.

This is too good a story to not finish......what was the model 12?

edgarspencer

Alfred, it’s a 1915 vintage field grade, but with a raised matted rib, 14 groove pump grip. What’s unusual is it’s original 26” full choked barrel. It’s in remarkable condition. 16ga. 2 1/2 chamber.
My excitement is tempered by a pathetic lack of interest in the gunshop chosen by the auction house; Safeshoot, in Kingston NY. The owner basically said he’ll ship it when he feels like it.

What a dang mess.

Right, Mills. Part of me says call the auctioneer and ask that he refund my payment. Part of me says’you didn’t need it before you saw it, so just be patient. I hate these dickheaded shop owners who really shouldn’t be in the business.

I do think at the very least you should complain to the auction house; pretty crappy if you ask me.

So, Edgar, is the 16 gauge Model 12 a "round top" or is it a bit late for this feature? I took my 12 gauge round top, 30" modified gun, 70,000 range, to our annual swap meet and went a full day without anyone even looking at it.

It's a Model 1912, but not 'Round Top' receiver. They tell me today that it will go out tomorrow, so I'll know more by the weekend.
Do you have a Black Diamond 16ga. Model 97?

I have a 55,xxx 16 ga Model 1912, but it too is the recessed matted receiver.

No 16 gauge Model 97 Black Diamond in my house. However, I would buy one if it came available.

Last night, I got a call from the nice little girl who works for the jerk at the gunshop in NY, to say it would go out, via UPS, this morning. It seems, he opened the email with my FFL 12 days ago, but didn't know how to print it, and didn't bother to ask her.

Edgar, I have some nice 12 gauge Model 97 Black Diamonds, including an Ulrich engraved project gun that I would rather lived somewhere else.

The gun arrived late yesterday, and it's really quite nice. The stock, while having nice figured isn't shaped as I like, and I believe I have better looking stumps in my burn pile.
