I got this VH 16g in today for a new stock. I quickly noticed a very interesting detail behind the hammer screws that I have never seen before.

I have seen other examples of various little extra embellishments on VH grade guns, just not this particular one.

Figured I would share.

We just walked in the door from Maine and heard the "You've got mail" notice.

Probably done to take your eyes away from the "buckboard chatter" marks peened just under the first screw.

Yup, it's amazing how many guys examine their shootin' irons with a hammer.

Have a PH 16 ga. on the way that needs a stock. Is the old stock available?

No. The original stock is being retained by the owner.

Back to the OP, Brian, do you think that extra embellishment is original? It certainly looks it.

I do. It certainly appears to be.

I think it was done in Meriden. That embellishment had been employed on Parkers before.

Another Quality VH just came to the top on GI with an extra flourish on each side.

I had a 28 gauge skeet VHE once and it had a couple of extra scrolls from factory and was told they were used to cover up a couple of imperfections on frame. Bobby

No imperfections to cover up on my gun, just a nicely done flower on each side of the receiver. The gun was about mint with no other sign of modifications.

I have heard guns with a few extra flourishes/embellishments as "Friday guns." The idea being that if an engraver was finishing a gun on a Friday afternoon they would spend a little extra time on the gun they were working on instead of starting a on new one.

My 16 hammer gun has a flower on the rib ..just ahead of the receiver..

The earlier Parkers with no rib matting usually had a flower engraved where the rib joined the doll's head extension.

It's probably one of the "Friday guns" they talk about.
