Sorry for your loss. A lot of writers have tried to find the best words to give us comfort but the grief still hits home.

Chris, sixteen years is a long time for a working bird dog and family pet to dedicate himself to you. I'd say he's earned his rest - bless him. They say the best place to bury a dog is in his master's heart and I know it's true. I wish you peace.

You have been blessed, indeed, to share 16 years of your life with such a fine companion. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

I know the sense of loss, ache of loosing your closest friend. It’s the loss you’re unable to share. My Finn hasn’t been gone two months, so even if You can’t share yours, we know how it feels and can understand. Sometimes, just knowing others understand is comforting.

Chris what great memories you must have of the last 16 years.
I was fortunate to have spent a week in the barrens and woods with him a few years back. A wonderful bird dog with a personality to go with it.
Like most of us you will find comfort in the memories of the times you spent together.

Chris, You were lucky to get 16 years with your hunting buddy. I'm sure your pup was loved and cared for, and he got to do what he was bred for -- what more could you give your pup? I wish you happy memories of those 16 years as you work through this loss.

Gene Hill said God made their lives short so we could enjoy more of them in our life. I can tell you that I lost the dog of my life nine years ago this Christmas morning while our kids opened presents oblivious to the fact he was being put down. It’s hard every year but it eases a little with time. I’ve found the biggest help was friends who understand what a bird dog means to a man. I don’t know you but I can share your pain.

thank you for sharing this, I am glad he got 16 years with you, we have a 13 year old havanese, I see his health declining, he has been well cared for as I know your dogs have been.

Chris, I'm so sorry, he was very lucky to have have you as his master and to be loved. It doesn't make the hurt go away, but someone here once said it wouldn't be heaven if we don't meet up again with our furry friends.

Chris, I know how it is to lose a great pup. You have met my outstanding Wirehair, Eva, at the Northeast Shoot at Ernie's, and at the Southern Side by Side. My lovely Linda is always on the other end of the lead at these shoots. We lost Eva a couple of years ago and I am heartbroken that the search for a non allergenic combo dog has resulted in an unsuccessful result of money hungry breeders. I remember when my dad offered a litter of champion bred Irish Setters in 1952, when I was seven years old, and accepted a casting rod and reel as payment for one of the pups when the buyer couldn't come up with $45.00 for the last bitch in the litter.
