Greetings from a newbie,

My son inherited a Parker Bros. break action, double barrel 12 gauge from his grandfather. I've used the Parker Guns website to help identify the make/model/etc. Its serial number is 177446, Frame 2, 44 weight barrels, grade V, with Meriden Conn. Vulcan Steel, manufactured in 1917 with about 79,000 being produced. Being new to this, I'm not entirely certain what all those stats even mean, but my question is what, if anything, is this worth? Should we keep it put away as a collector's item only, or can it or should it be used? It appears to be in very good shape.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hello Henry and Welcome!

Pictures would help greatly in assessing it's condition and value but, generally speaking, a Parker VH 12 ga. in "very good shape" would have a value of from about $1,400 to about $2,000.

If it is 'on face' and the barrels have no significant pitting or dents it should be used as often as you and your son can get out with it.
