Trojan with bulge.

Here are some photos I took of my trojan project gun. Notice my trusty gun cat got in one of the pics. The bulge is on the right barrel (I think I said left on one of my posts yesterd) about 9 inchs from the breech. The Trojan 12 ga, number 181430 has 30 inch barrels. and is full mod (based on the dime test) is well worn but other than the bulge I think it's been well cared for. The bores are good and the wood is solid with no cracks. The action was a little loose when I got it but I was able to get the new parker guys to send me the part that goes on the barrel lug and now it closes like a bank vault with the lever slightly right of center. Brent - Personally, I would not shoot an older gun with a bulge like that. I have been through this on a gun of my own and wanted to send the barrels to Dewey Vicknair to fix the bulge. Dewey said he does not repair bulged barrels for liability reasons. I ended up finding another set of barrels. (I was lucky.) The bulge probably came from an obstruction. Be careful. Nine inches from the breach is a critical area.

There are some good gunsmiths that can make the bulge invisible. I have a dent in the barrel of my 12 gauge Trojan and am debating doing the work myself or sending it off. A friend has a dent remover.

Your project gun is really nice. Nice late vintage Miller trigger. I agree with my friend Harry, find someone to fix the bulge. Keith Kearcher has done miracle work for me on bent shotgun barrels, both innies and outies as well as left and right turns. His bill will not exceed the value of the Trojan, even if he has to reset the ribs. By all means, do not send the gun to someone who doesn't know how to relay ribs.

Thanks for the reply. There seems to be some diversity of opinion on the bulge repair issue. In scanning other sites I have seen other discussions which dont seem to reach any conclusions. Im thinking that since this thing isnt an A-1 special and since Ive been lucky enough to keep all my fingers so far Ill keep looking for some barrels. The search is kind of fun anyway. I found one that the barrels would be perfect on Guns Internation #10006384 but they are asking $699 for a gun that I wouldn't use to shoot rock salt at stray cats. Maybe its just me but some of the prices seem crazy.

I think you may have been looking at the pictures I mistakenly sent of my GHE. The trojan was the last 3 pictues which isnt quite as pretty. Thanks for Keith's name I think I will contact him and see what he thinks

He refused to work on my gun, but I sent it to him anyway. In a couple of weeks, he called and said that one set of barrels was done and he was contemplating the second set. In another month, the second set was done. Those barrels were bent so badly that most ribs were popped. What length barrels and choke would you want if you went the new barrel route?

If I found some Id love to get 28" with more open chokes but thats probably going to be tough because its one of the old trojans with the rib extention.
