December 27 2017 was a bad day here as we said goodbye to our little girl Daisy. The house was empty and lonely without a dog. Ike was in the wings so to speak but wasn't ready to come home. There were several delays in getting him and Audrey was beginning to wonder if he was ever going to make it. Well 173 days later he has come home:) This was the first time in over 40 years I haven't had a dog so it was a very very long 173 days.

I got him as a started dog (due mostly to Audrey's fear of competition between Daisy and a pup and the fact that sometimes she didn't play well with others) and he definitely has the hunting instinct. After the shoot in Medford WI we drove south of Green Bay to the breeder/trainer. We took Ike into a field where three birds were planted. It was hot, muggy and the wind swirling but he pointed each one and went to the dead birds. He's not finished by any means but is off to a good start.

Ike isn't Daisy and Daisy wasn't Gunner but as he matures and comes into his own he will grow into a fine companion and a good bird dog. The spoiling has begun:rotf:

Your reading my mind:rotf: Maybe a VHE 28 skeet that I have and it's been redone so it has no "collector" value. I'm already thinking an extra couple of weeks in the U.P. this fall so maybe I can catch a Woodcock flight for training purposes.

Wonderful! Ike is put together well and appears to be in great shape. Nothing better than a young Shorthair in the field & getting to watch them develop. The inherent rascalism of a young GSP will sure keep you laughing as well..it's good for the soul.

Good luck with him.

I have never owned a male dog,,,,, pointer or setter, always female Brits. Regardless of the breed, the old ones seemed to always given you their best and the new pups will give you the same, additionally with new unconditional love and devotion.

Best to you and yours with the "pup"
Allan
