Any recommendations for a setter breeder in Michigan? Or within driving distance?

Thanks.

Kirk, find a guy that runs the "Cover Dog" trials (there are lots of them in Michigan) and inquire about a puppy. Those guys know of darn near every puppy that is available or will be. You are certain to get headed down the right path to a quality dog.

Scott Chaffee (spelling?) is around the Clare/Beaverton area he runs trial dogs and has had some champion Setters. You might ask over at MI sportsman board or Upland Journal board.

In Illinois there is Highland Kennels owned by Caren Mansfield & JD Waters. They bought the line of Highland Llewellin’s from Glen Roark when he retired about 10 years ago. Very good hunting and field trial heritage.

Kirk - Give Dave D'Hulster a call. (810) 385-7007. http://www.springfieldpetresort.com/service-pet-resort

His kennel - Springfield Kennels, is located in Clyde, which is in the base of the thumb near Port Huron. One of the nicest guys you will ever meet. His boarding and training kennels is top notch, Has been a professional Lab trainer for decades, but his private passion is Grouse setters. He and I run our Labs at a hunt club - picking up for their European Tower shoots. Tell him Hi for me

If you are interested in a Ryman type setter I would recommend getting ahold of Mark Alteman at Rum Creek Kennels in Rockford. He is planning to have a breeding soon and his Bitch briar is an awesome grouse dog. The stud belongs to a vet up north and is great as well.
