I thought I was being clever with the cost of Logwood being so high and purchased it in liquid form off Amazon. I could not get my Logwood and Ferrous Sulphate mixture dark enough. I boiled the Laminated barrels and they did not come out as Black as I wanted. I called Dale Edmonds supplier, Abbey Colors Inc, and they want $2,730.00 for ten pounds. They referred me to Aurora Silk and they are out of Logwood. Who do you use as a Logwood supplier?

Thanks,
Harry

Ebay. For dying traps. Very cheap.

Or use your own Hemlock bark. That's what I did when I would boil my traps back in the 50' & 60's and it produced a very black stain.

Hey Harry. I was able to get this without logwood. Plenty black enough, and the crolle is full, but the steel should come out more, but that's not related to the use of logwood. Will probably etch again. The fine layers of this one have been a pain.

Like many of the other process variables, some evidently don't use logwood. I'd like to, to save some rusting cycles, but I'm not done setting up a tank for it.

If you have time, let's reconnect and compare notes again. I've been using a slurry similar to calcium carbonate as a step late in the cycle.

I've tried the logwood available on Amazon to my disappointment. The following is what I tried today without ferrous sulfate added to the logwood boil or the ferrous sulfate dip afterward as both had caused failures in the past. I'm going to try to post yesterdays pictures prior to todays plus some self explanatory stuff.

Well, I screwed that up. Pictures 4 & 6 are correct for after logwood boil and the other two are different guns altogether from yesterday. Anyway the two correctly pictured barrels are proof that parents let their children use old Parkers as baseball bats.
