I'm trying to restore a set of Damascus barrels. The pattern easily pops out early in the process using Pilkington's and Ferritic but after the second or third round in the process the rust blue turns the entire pattern dark blue and vigorous carding cannot restore the contrast.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm no expert on this ,but have you tried cutting/diluting the rust solution ?

No, I've not tried cutting the Pilkington solution back. Has this worked before?

Thanks

From what I understand you must reduce your solutions as the process moves forward ....you'll likely get a more accurate reply from one of the established damascus refinishing guru's ,Like you I'm still experimenting.

Good luck ,
Chris

There was an article in "Double Gun Journal" several years ago that gave very specific instructions on how to refinish Damascus barrels. Unfortunately I don't remember the issue # and I'm not in a position to look it up right now.
