Recover lost draft posts?

So I'm at my whits end here..... :banghead:

Twice I compiled a lengthy and descriptive post only to have the forum tell me I was logged off when I know I logged in before starting the post.

These two posts took considerable time to compose, about an hour to 90 minutes. When I got done and tried to preview, the message popped up I was logged off and prompted me to log back in. When I do, the entire post is lost and gone. Saved no where in any form or draft file location that I can see.

Is there any way to recover these lost posts somehow either on my end or internally?

They were both named: "Engraving Breakdown Ch. 1" - I was working in and intending to post in the Engraving Forum.

Please help if possible, not sure I can muster the ambition to compose mit a third time.

Maybe John Dunkle may be able to help. Maybe...

It is wise to develop long posts in MS Word or other word processing application. Save it every two minutes and you will never loose your work. Been there, lost that...

When you see the system tell you that you are timed out or logged off sometimes you can click the back arrow and you can get to the text you typed but sometimes this doesn't work. Once you leave the page without saving it or posting it it is gone forever.
I do hope you try again... I am always interested in people's posts on engraving.
The problem may be in the settings in the device you are using. Check your settings.

It would be great if someone can offer a path to recovery?
If not....
I likely a will try again, this time in Micro-word intitially and then try to copy & paste to forum.

It's safest to compose long, over 5 minutes, posts offline in MS Word or some such and then copy-paste into a forum entry. But an alternative that will reset logoff timer is, as you write, every 5 minutes or so, hit the Preview Post and Back buttons. This is a universal issue with all forums not just this one.

i simply take a second to select and copy every so often

that way - when i accidentally hit control instead of caps and go off in space with an unintentional command :rolleyes:

I can pick up where i left off with a simple paste

Thank you to all that have replied and offered advise. Frequent back-ups and copy/paste in from a Microsoft Word file all seem like good solutions.

I will follow this advise for future posts.

I had that happen a couple of times, so now when finish a long post I'll copy it before posting it just in case. It is very frustrating when it happens.
