I hope someone can give me some historic info regarding my Horsley nickel plated recapper that is talked about and shown in the Parker Story book two. How long did Bridgeport make these items? Can't seem to come up with the answer. I read that they were offered by Parker in the latter part of the 1800's. Also, the Parker Bros. Kelsey Capper only installs primers... correct?

In the 1882 catalog the horsley capper is shown as No. 1181 on the page titled recappers.
The Kelsey capper No, 16 is on the page titled Cappers.
You are correct that the Kelsey only installs the caps.

The No. 1183 is shown in the 1882 BGI catalog, but is not in the 1901 catalog. BGI catalogs are few and far between. I have the 4 Cornell reprints and an original 1904.

Any idea as to when they stopped production of the Horsley Recapper? Also, when did they go out of business?

In the 1878 parker catalog the Horsley capper is listed as #19 for paper shells. It cost $2.50.

I have also found it listed with image as 1183 B.G.I. Horsley's capper in the 1886 john P. Moore's of NYC catalog reissued by Cornell Pub. Have not seen any images of the original boxes. The Kelsey box is shown in the parker story. Regards.

Henry, does the 1886 Moore catalog have more than a few BGI items listed?

Mark,
It has the BGI Horsley #1183, the BGI cocobolo rammer #1150, The BGI Barclay pattern brass wad guide #1147, the BGI powder measure with ring handle #22, the BGI hook shell extractor #1175, the BGI extractor with screw for recapping, the BGI crimper or closer #1101 and 1103, a BGI brush, a bunch of Acme stuff, a couple parker items, some Barclay and some Dixon. Moore's was one of the largest wholesale sporting goods distributors in the US. They list parker hammer guns but the image is not very good. It has many other long guns and pistols of that time frame for sale. All in all... a good item to add to one's library or ref. collection. Regards.
