All events will be shot at Rock Mountain. Sept 3-4 we shoot .410,32,28,24,20,16,12 and 10 bore 50 target events and 5-Stand. Sept 4-5 we shoot the 16,12 and 10 bore Prelim 50 target events and the black powder event (50 tgts). Sunday we shoot the 100 target Main Event. All these events except for the 5-Stand are for hammer and hammerless guns. The Manufacturer Cup Challenge is open to all manufacturers and will be shot Sept 3,4 & 5. In order to qualify for the team shoot off each manufacturer must have 5 team members. The top 5 qualifying shooters will be on each team.

Vendor space is available on a 1st come-1st serve basis for the pavilion and lodge porch. Space is basically 10'x10' (3 tables and 2 chairs) for $200. Extra tables/chairs are an added charge. All vendors/exhibitors who sign up before 15 June will be included in our large Shooting Sportsman ad. Gun collector associations will have booth space for no charge.

TROPHIES WILL BE AWARDED FOR: "HOA" OF SMALL, MID AND BIG BORE EVENTS, HAMMER & HAMMERLESS.
"HOA" AND "RU" OF PRELIM EVENTS, 10-12-16, HAMMER AND HAMMERLESS.
"HOA" AND "RU" OF BLACK POWDER AND 5-STAND.
"HOA" AND "RU" OF MAIN EVENT, HAMMER AND HAMMERLESS.
ALL 5 MEMBERS OF THE "MANUFACTURER CUP CHALLENGE" TEAM.
"IRON MAN" AWARD FOR HIGHEST COMBINED TOTAL OF MAIN EVENT AND ANY 6 @ 50 BIRD EVENTS.

All info will be found on our RMSC website on the Northern SxS Challenge and Expo page.

Mike: Sounds like big fun. Will all these events be shot on the same course or do you have more than one. Have you set prices for shooting events?

Mike Koneski
02-19-2015, 04:52 PM
One course for .410 through 24, one course for 20-16, one course for 12-10. Each course will have either 8 or 9 stations. The Main Event will be shot over 17 stations. 5-Stand and Manufacturer Cup shot on the games area. We have plenty of options. 21 stations we can use on the Main Course and 9 on the Short Course.

Looks like a great shoot. I am really looking forward to it.
Stay warm up there.

Mike Koneski
02-19-2015, 10:49 PM
CL, yes the prices have been pretty much set. Working on carts for rent next. The registration will be posted on our site and the usual SxS sites when we have the cart rentals set.

NO!!!! It's to damn cold out. I was referring to the shoot that combined Rock Mtn and Hausmanns. Last year they made it 100 targets per place. I wanted to go but it just didn't work out.

ABSOLUTELY!!

Rick Losey
04-08-2015, 10:17 PM
Please tell me those rectangular ones are belt buckles...

A little close to the east coast for that

I remember reading, many years ago that you can tell how far you are from one of the coasts by the size of the belt buckles

Small and light on either coast and getting bigger as you go inland until around Texas or Oklahoma or points north, they approach the size of a bread plate then begin to shrink again as you approach the other coast

Mike,

Thank you for posting. You have done a lot of work so far. I know it will pay off in the end. I for one am really looking forward to your shoot.

All my best,

Mike Koneski

COB and Dean, that's why the buckles also come with a display base. Some don't wear fancy buckles and some CAN'T wear fancy buckles!!

Mike Koneski
04-29-2015, 07:11 PM
We are currently working with the Comfort Inn and the Hampton Inn, both in Tunkhannock, to block rooms for the shoot. Tunkhannock is 15-20 minutes from RMSC and both hotels are only a few years old. We will also have carts available for rent by the day.

George M. Purtill
04-29-2015, 10:07 PM
Maybe we could have a Parker vs. somebody challenge cup here?

Mike Koneski
04-30-2015, 02:55 PM
George, we are running a Manufacturer's Cup open to all major US manufacturers. We'd have no problem with PGCA running an event concurrent to any of our scheduled events. We think that would be great!!

Dean Romig

John Truitt
05-28-2015, 12:05 PM
Mike,

Can the main event be entered in both hammer and hammerless or do you want us to choose only one to enter?

Also how many attempts to qualify for the manufacturers challenge?

What time will shooting start on Thursday the 3rd?

Thanks. All my best,

John

John Truitt
05-28-2015, 12:13 PM
Will there be trappers on each station/ trappers to go along with the group/ or pull and score your own in the group?

Mike Koneski
05-28-2015, 04:43 PM
John, there are hammer and hammerless Main Events. You are welcome to shoot both if you like. Shoot as many times for the Cup as you want. Only your highest score will be used for the Team of 5. Shooting will begin at 8:30-9:00. We are working on having trappers on every station. We may have to use trappers that travel with the squads on Thursday. BTW, lodging info is on our website NOW and will be on our FB page and on the SxS sites soon.

We have booked blocks of rooms in Tunkhannock (15-20 minutes south) at both The Comfort Inn and The Hampton Inn. Both are near restaurants we'd recommend any time and both have easy access to Rt 29 and a quick drive to Rock Mountain. If they book all the rooms early they should be adding more if needed. Here's the contact info-

Make sure to ask for rooms for "Northern SxS/Rock Mountain"

Local Accomodations for 9/3, 9/4 and 9/5 (If you want to stay over Sunday, 9/6, they can book you now, but may run out of rooms early)

Comfort Inn and Suites: 570-836-4100 or 570-836-4111
Room availability:
1 King Bed $109 7 available for each night

2 Queen Beds $109 8 available for each night

Hampton Inn: 570-996-5866
Room availability:
1 King Bed $119 7 available for each night

2 Queen Beds $119 8 available for each night

2 items to add for now. We are adding another trophy for the Main Event High Lady. It is a beautiful hand crafted curly maple burl bowl that will have the RMSC logo, shoot date and "Main Event High Lady" laser cut on the bottom side. I'd also like to add that the PGCA will have a booth in the vendor area!! Autumn Daze will post more about that in the near future. :D

Well, at your place and Hausmann I wooped up on the Polish guy from Ct., but he wooped me 2 years ago. I'm sure he'll be gunning for me. Can you set targets I like? Straight in comers that just hang about 15 yards in front of you about 20 feet high would be fine. Thanks in advance!

Ladies and gents, this shoot is now 1 month away!!! Please remember that all cart rentals must be prepaid when you order them, and preregistration is important for logistics to be able to provide enough range help, trappers, birds, etc. If we have 50 preregister we will have trappers for 50. Therefore, if 150 show up, there just may be delays. We have 13 vendors booked so far. This is shaping up to be a fun event!! See you soon!!

Mike Koneski
08-06-2015, 10:24 AM
Lodging update!! Just FYI, if you have a AAA membership and reserve a room/rooms at the Hampton Inn, you can get even more of a discount on lodging. Hope this helps!! See y'all in a month!! :)

Great news for those who need shells. RST has not yet decided if they will be set up here for the shoot, however, they will take your order for shells and make sure the shells are delivered here to Rock Mountain.

Mike Koneski
08-25-2015, 11:21 AM
Another vendor has been added, "Old Dominion Classic Doubles" will be joining in on the fun!!!

Mike Koneski
08-25-2015, 11:26 AM
There has been some question regarding using smaller gauge guns in larger gauge events. That is fine, with one exception, ONLY 10 bore guns may be used in the 10 bore events. We also do not allow the use of tube sets or chamber reducers in any gauge. Thanks.

09-06-2015, 09:36 PM
For those of you that missed this event, let me tell you if you are a shooter, this is the best shooting venue I've ever attended. Mike, his wife Susan, and his crew really did it up right. Fantastic targets and three courses. Large bore (10,12), small bore (32,24, 28 and .410) and mid bore (20,16). We had great weather, interesting vendors and a great cocktail/ouerderve event on Sat. thanks to Larry, Deb. Chuck, Dean and Dave. Geo. Purtil, Mike Smith and I shot our butts off (a total of around 26 rounds give or take a few).

I really enjoy the Southern, Ernie's is fun, but this event has the potential to be THE premier SxS event in the northeast. Mike gave out great trophies and could'nt have been a better host. Kudos to you Mike, Susan and crew. Thanks for a great 4 days of shooting and a wonderful food concession. (Those of you who were there will know what I mean.)

Mike & Susan,

We sincerely hope this was a worthwhile endeavor for you. Judging by your announcement of plans for 2016, I would guess it was somewhat better than "break even" for you.
That's good! You deserve it - you all put your heart and souls (and sweat) into it.

I had a blast. Shot so much my shoulder hurts. The course was as good as I remembered it this spring , shooting on Sunday after Ernie's. The trappers were the most polite and courteous I have ever encountered, the machines worked well, there was only one goddamn rabbit station(!!!!!), the food was excellent, the serving staff was an eyeful, and the physical plant is top notch.
The PGCA was well represented. Dave did his usual great job with our tables. I got to see and fondle some of the PGCA archives- wow- John Browning's AH Parker. Breathtaking.
And it was great to see old friends, even our cross dressing Fox opponents.
As soon as you give us the date Mike, its going in my calendar. Hurry up.

Thank you Mike and Susan for putting on such a great event. It takes a tremendous amount of work and you and your staff did a great job. Deb and I look forward to shooting this event next year.

At our Saturday evening social the winning ticket for the 2015 Raffle Gun was drawn and PGCA member George Bagley from Georgia was the lucky winner. I would like to thank Jeff Kuss for donating the beautiful GH Damascus gun and also Ed Morgan for doing such a great job once again running this successful fundraiser.

Mike you and Susan should be commended on putting on a fabulous event. For a first year event I thought it was wonderful. All the courses were very well laid out and the targets were perfect for us SxS shooters. Your facility is one of the best I have shot here in the Northeast. The food and scenery was wonderful.... Ah hell....I can't say enough good things about this shoot except that we will be back next year! Can't wait.....

Congratulations team Parker.

Congrats Susan and Mike on an excellent event and a big step forward to your next Northern. Evil Doctor Mike did his usual great job on the targets ..... everything was in range, no eye tests, just simple presentations that he coordinates with the terrain to have you go away shaking your head "how could I have missed so many"? Scorers were cordial and well trained, food vendor excellent in many ways, traps were up to par with only 2 broken birds off the traps over the 300 rounds I fired in 5 events. Congrats again!

And it was great to see old friends, even our cross dressing Fox opponents.
As soon as you give us the date Mike, its going in my calendar. Hurry up.

Many have asked about next year's dates. Tentatively we will say September 22,23,24 & 25. :)

The "Hell Hole" station is my favorite out of all we have!! I love driven pah-tridge!! Don't forget that WNEP 16 was here and filmed a show on Friday for their PA Outdoor Life which airs at 6:30 PM on Sundays. It's been on the air for 33 years. This episode will most likely air the first Sunday of October and will be available on their website at 7:00 PM. You will be able to post the show on this site. BTW, a Fox BOD steered them to the Parker booth and the artifacts on display, especially John Browning's A Grade!! Looking forward to viewing it. :)

They certainly had it all. They should have called this the Northern 3D Shoot. There were targets on every axis. Directly overhead through a break in the trees incoming and outgoing. From the edge of a ravine deep into the canyon tracking birds along the bottom of the gully. I have heard of high birds in Scotland, but this course had birds that were way out of range at their peak , but if you were patient they would come within range and could be broke at conventional distances. On the 5 stand I never did see the 6 bird on the simo pair. It was in plain sight had I been looking in the right place a bit faster... Master Frey, however, dusted it in the course of turning in a winning score of 24/25. All I can say is:bowdown: Well done Team Parker.

Frank Srebro

And the "Hell Hole" station is my least favorite, and Doctor Mike the target setter knows it. I dropped 4 of the 6 birds on that station. Driven birds? Yeah right. That first one was high and smokin. :banghead:

Reminds me of when I shot the NSCA PA State Championship at Rock Mtn a few years ago and was in a three way tie for first place in the SxS event. So the good Doctor (who wasn't into classic doubles then) decided to have a shoot out on the Make a Break field but without using the #1 birds and with simos on the others. And I'm shooting a double trigger Fox and the two other gents had modern single trigger/high rib competition doubles. :banghead: Yeah Mike, I'm not gonna forget that one either. :)

Frank;
The "Hell Hole" did'nt bother me as much as the last station did with those lazy in-your-face targets. You shot lights out throughout the course and the "Hole" was your only bad station. Not bad my friend.

Okay guy's....so I'm a little slow on the uptake. What station are we calling the "hell hole"?

Daryl Corona
09-08-2015, 09:15 PM
It's the station after you leave the high incomers and enter the woods to shoot the same targets through an opening, hence the term "Hell Hole". My term, not Mikes.

Dave Suponski

Here are a few pictures I took before the battery in my camera went dead.

1. Rock Mountain SC as seen from the road down into the place.

2. The new pavilion where the vendors set up their displays and tables and with ample parking (this year ;)).

3. The equipment barn and at the far end of it is the luxurious clubhouse of some 40' X 40' or so.

4. Station 6 puts you on a cantilevered platform out over the canyon ('I think I'm gonna be sick' kind of feeling up there). Target 1 is a pop-up at about 40 yards at the closest and target 2 is a right-to-left screamin' crosser at the bottom of the canyon.

5. Station 6 again.

6. Station 6 looking down to the path of the crosser (urp...)

7. Station 8 had a blooper that slowly went up 15 feet and dropped 10 yards in front of you.... and a fast, low right to left crosser that you had to be pretty quick to break.

8. Station 11 was a pair of rabbits..... I've never seen bunnies hop so high... the one in the picture is on it's way down...
