Just got a nice 12 gauge "G" with BLUED "Damascus Steel" barrels. Any recommendations on someone to take them back to Damascus?

just read down through this forum

there are several threads about refinishing damascus barrels with examples of the work done by the people regularly recommended here

removing the blue is just an extra step- there are bluing removers by companies such as Birchwood Casey

Or to have them refinished to bring back the beautiful Damascus pattern in all its glory you might consider sending the barrels to Dale Edmonds or Brad Bachelder. Probably in the $400 range.

Birchwood Casey's rust and blue remover will strip everything off the barrels and leave you with barrels essentially in the white. This product will strip any remaining Damascus finish. Just be advised.

Why could you not run them through the acid wash to bring out the contrast? Refinishing damascus barrels involves rust bluing, then a weak acid bath. If you strip the blue off to refinish you just have to reblue them all over again.

Yes that can be done. I saw a set at Dales where the owner had done just that.
But there had been a slight error. The steel was etched down below the level of the iron and the resultant surface was highly uneven. The barrels would have had to be draw filed again and carded again to get smooth. I guess the owner had tried his hand at it and sent them to Dale. Too bad at one time they had been nice barrels.
