As I'm sure most everyone knows, Capt A W DuBray of Parker Brothers often wrote using the nom de plume “Gaucho”. I have an almost complete collection of the weekly American Field from 1903-1913 and I read one issue per night when I have time. They're filled with plenty of sporting, dog, hunting, fishing and trap shooting info. Not to mention the vintage adverts from the gun companies. I don't have a scanner but here are some pics of an interesting DuBray article from the AF 8/03/1912 issue. Enjoy. :)

We've certainly seen examples of what Gaucho professes whenever Dr. John Truitt or Dave Fjelline or Ed Blake step to the line at Deep River.

Thanks Frank - that was enlightening!

By the way, excellent article in the Spring Issue of DGJ.

Best, Dean

Thanks Frank. I could read that stuff all day. I guess we are not that far off in our fondness for 32" tubes. By the way, I have a 32" DH that is linked to DuBray. I'll have it at the Southern if you can make it, if not I'll bring it to Ernie's.

Thanks everyone. Just some info I should have included in the post ..... the velocities reported by DuBray may be confusing to modern shooters. Back in the day, velocity was usually shown as average velocity over 40 yards, not muzzle velocity as the practice is today. I presume that average was calculated by adding muzzle velocity + remaining velocity at 40 yards, sum divided by 2.

AHA! Thanks for that last bit of info Frank. Now this chart makes more sense.

Barrel length seem to chane with the seasons. When I started to shoot registered skeet back in the late 70's 26 inch barrels were the in thing. I recently sold my "skeet" gun and it had 30 inch tubes.
