The name Parker, Parker Bros, Parker Brothers, was engraved on their guns from early on, to just Parker on the floor plate of Remington era guns, It would be interesting for us to show different locations of the engraving on our guns, I believe there are several, I will start with this one. Gary

Great gun Dean. That must be a VERY early gun as the bird sort of resembles a Pterodactyl.:rotf: Nice, none the less.

Here's a unique Parker.

Repeated here is Dean's statement and photo that he posted.

That gorgeous gun is one of only a couple Bernard barreled B grades. Although the flying bird is stylized rather than a true representation of a real bird, look at the deep cut rondell engraving in back of it. A fabulous gun.

Larry that Bernard C grade looks strangely familiar:whistle:

Here is a CHE 20.

Notice the 'serpent' banner bearing the Parker Bros. logo. The engravers at Parker Brothers were given the liberty of expression on the higher grades... within the parameters of 'good taste' of course.

WOW some great examples!! The great thing about Parker engraving is all the variability! Here is my example Parker name just in a straight line. Simple but
elegant in my opinion.

Craig, your 1904 Parker is a wonderful example of the kind of art that ushered in the Art Deco period. Art Deco began in Europe in about 1908 and didn't become popular here until after WW-I. The border engraving everywhere on the frame is exquisite and the scroll engraving on your Grade 5 is wonderful.

Here are 4 more. Great thread!

Sorry about the pictures, they looked better before I uploaded them? I had to click on them after uploading to enlarge it to be able see the "Parker Bros." that was so clear here on my computer. Sorry.

Other than studying the many variations of name engraving on my V grades, I find nothing noteworthy. My higher grade guns all seem 'common'.
I think I need more guns.:) No, you don't:nono:Shut up

Dean, tell us more about the hammer gun.

Dean Romig
08-15-2013, 11:29 PM
Bill, the hammer gun isn't mine but belongs to a collector who would rather remain anonymous.

I really feel privileged that some of these otherwise 'anonymous' collectors allow us to enjoy their Parkers here on the forum. I hope they will always allow us to enjoy them at least this way.

Bruce,
I love the C grade guns that have the dogs in a circle at the back of the frame instead of in the middle. Like the one you pictured. Kind of a mixture of B grade into it.

Thank you for the kind words. This gun is a 1904 Damascus 20 ga, one of only a few known.

I wonder how many total guns were produced with the roundaval engraveing like that. I have a CHE Bernard 16 with that style of engraving but have only seen three with that style.

Dean Romig
08-20-2013, 09:33 AM
I've seen or seen pictures of at least fifteen Parkers with the roundel or roundelle style of engraving - the lowest grade was a GH in sixteen gauge that sold quickly on gunbroker while I was trying to decide how high I was willing to go..... duh!!

Bruce Day

The rondell engraving format is found mostly in C grades athough some B, D, and G also had it. As fas as I have been able to determine it is only from 1900 to 1905. I have a theory that it was done by a single unknown engraver. Rondell engraved guns are uncommon, perhaps even rare......they are seldom seen.

I know a local gentleman that has a CHE steel barreled gun that has that style of side engraving and a stag on the bottom with very unique line borders on the bottom as well. I have to get photos of that gun next time I see him.

Mills Morrison

It is cool. Not sure if you can see the "Parker Bros" on mine, but it is a little different from yours. This just shows the variation in engraving styles from gun to gun, even with two guns so close together in production

Thank you Gary for those pictures. The bolsters on th second one caught my eye and I was going to ask...

What is the serial number or year of that gun, what gauge and what grade please?

Brian Dudley

I am curious of that as well. I would wager before number 2,000. Looks like non rebounding locks on it.

Dean Romig

I had Parker 20 ga. lifter no. 10165 in my possession for a while recently that had bolsters just like that. It was made on the tiniest of lifter frames.
