Hi Jack,
Nice photos! A couple of us will be seeing your beautiful country in late Sept. looking for Huns. We're supposed to be staying to the n/w of you there.
I've never been to that part of Canada and am looking forward to seeing it. Has your weather been decent this spring for the bird hatches?

Wes: One bird this province has plenty of is Huns. We did not have a great spring but I see pairs here and there out for the dog walks. If you have a local contact in the area you are hunting, you should have good luck. Where will you be hunting? Right about then I will be fly fishing in Alberta for mountain stream trout. My passion though is wild pheasant. (Sneaking that limit of roosters in here. They were taken with one of the guns I inherited from Dad. At the time, the family Parker was out of service and my "new" one had not yet arrived, so I am taking the liberty to display an autoloader but hope to repeat the image this fall with a good condition Parker VH on it's way here) I take a few huns and sharptails but don't go looking for them, they just pop up from time to time in my pheasant haunts. The image between the ptarmigan and the snow geese is a hun flushing from cattails. Had I caught it above or below the background trees, it would be more obvious.

We're going to be over by Kindersley, staying at a ranch. I was told the waterfowl is outstanding also, but we're both interested in Huns primarily w/ the bird dogs.

Jack, are you getting dry weather like we are in Alberta? Right now there are 70 wildfires going in the NW of the province, most out of control. They're pulling in fire fighters and water bombers from as far away as Mexico to fight them. I was in north central Alberta last week and most of the people were talking about selling or having sold their horses and cattle due to a lack of grass. I think they may have gotten a bit of rain the last several days though. I hope they get plenty more.

Wes: Kindersley is major goose country - right on the flyway Huns are always around somewhere, right from the US border to the end of cultivated land in the north. I've seen them around Prince Albert country even.

Bob: I think "dry" is an accurate description now. We did have some rain last week. It has become cold beer rather than single malt as beverage of choice. That will probably last for a couple of weeks, when things settle down and we cool off with an early snow fall :)

Well, about an hour after this post, we had a sudden thunderstorm arise, not predicted at all. Heavy rain to the point the eaves troughs could not handle it. Lasted about 30 minutes. Not dry here now until tomorrow. Cheers, Jack

Wes: How was your hunt? Hope the huns were plentiful and the dogs had a good time. Any pictures? In four days I'll be chasing roosters again.:)

We just returned from your country yesterday. To say we had a great hunt would be an understatement! It was a fine time and we found a lot of Gray partridge for the dogs. The people were all very friendly to us, which was nice. I was surprised to see so many different nationalities in the towns we went into. We intend to go back if we can.
Best of luck w/ the roosters! Have a good fall season up there.
