It’s one month and counting to the Northeast Side by Side and the A H Fox Collectors’ 6th annual Bo-Whoop Long Range Championship. Dates are May 31 to June 2, 2013 at Hausmanns Hidden Hollow in Friendsville PA (northeast corner of the state near Montrose the Susquehanna County seat). The location is a few miles south of Vestal NY. The A H Fox Collectors Association will have an assortment of fine Fox shotguns and ephemera on display. Many Side by Side enthusiasts here in the northeast feel this is a “must do" event - with its excellent courses, camaraderie and fellowship, and to buy/sell/trade vintage SxS guns and related items. The sporting course is a mix of grouse type targets, driven birds and shots over water.

You are all invited to bring your Foxes not only to shoot but also to show your gun(s), discuss features, problems or most anything else you want to know on Ansley’s Finest.

For 2013 our Bo-Whoop Long Range Championship will be expanded to include a separate event for vintage single barrel trap (SBT) guns. Full details on both events will be posted at the shooting station. But for your planning: you may shoot 10 gauge and smaller at the Bo-Whoop targets (1-1/4 ounce and 7-1/2-shot maximums). And our new SBT event will be limited to vintage single barrel trap guns such as Fox, Parker, LC Smith, Ithaca, Baker, Lefever, etc. - all using standard trap loads. Purses will be done for both Fox Collector events, and the high A H Fox shotgun will be recognized as our 2013 Bo-Whoop winner with shooter's name engraved on our perpetual trophy.

There are no parking or admission fees. Many vendors will have SxS guns and accoutrements for sale or trade under the tents. An excellent food vendor will be on site. Stock up on RST shells while there. RST brings a big truck, and if you buy a few flats the savings in shipping cost will help with your gas money!

You can find most anything you need to know on Ernie Hausmann’s website: link follows here:

It's just about 10 days to the NE Side by Side at Hidden Hollow in northeastern PA, to include the Fox Collectors' Bo-Whoop Long Range Shoot and our new Vintage Single Barrel Trap (SBT) Gun Championship which is named the William C Letterman Cup. Please refer to the first post here for more details. The Hidden Hollow link is included.

Both of the Fox Collector's shooting events will run from 9:00am to 5:00pm, on Friday May 31 and Saturday June 1. You may sign up at the shooting station just inside the gate coming from the parking lot, no preregistration is necessary. The NE Side by Side continues with Hausmann's Main Event on Sunday June 2.

Here’s our William C Letterman Cup Trophy. Thanks to our Toolman for finding the Cup and having it made up. Your name could be on a plate here!

Frank,
Do you have to shoot a Fox in the SBT event?

Larry, you can shoot any vintage SBT gun in the W C Letterman Cup event (see first post). The intent is to compete with pre-1960's break open type Trap guns. Anything newer than 1960 will have to be approved in advance by a Fox Collector rep. For example, a 1970's Ithaca SBT would be OK but a modern Perazzi, Ljutic, etc would not. Also, Hausmann restricts guns to break-open type and thus something like a vintage 1897 Winchester Trap gun would not qualify even though it has one barrel.

Frank, Danny and I were talking about this event last evening. He told me "Put the trap gun in the car" So I think he is gonna shoot this event. I will have a ball cheering him on.

The dates for both events are Friday May 31 and Saturday June 1. 9am to 5pm both days. There will be no Fox Collector sponsored shooting on Sunday June 2 due to the Northeast SxS Main Event being held on Sunday.

The Bo-Whoop Long Range menu will be five SIMULTANEOUS pairs of targets (also known as “true pairs”) = 10 targets. The William C Letterman Cup menu will be five pairs of singles “on call” = 10 targets. Competitors may enter more than once. Practice shooting for either event is $10.00 per 10 target menu. "For Score" shooting/either event is $20.00 per 10 target menu. Practice scores are not eligible for the trophy recognition nor the purses.

A full copy of the rules will be prominently posted at the shooting station, and a Fox Collector representative will be available there to answer any questions. The shooting station and observation area will have a tent as a contingency for rain and sun.

Frank, this SBT event doesn't sound like any standard trapshooting event such as 16 yard singles. Are you shooting from a distance such as the 27 yard line or is it entirely something different than American trap?

Chuck, you are correct it's not a regular American Trap setup. I don't know what the targets will look like until Ernie, staff and I set them on next Thursday. Basically we'll be shooting the same targets as the Bo-Whoop simo pair presentation - except that the SBT shooters will do them as singles on call. We will PROBABLY shoot the W C Letterman Cup targets from a nearby but different shooting butt, time will tell.
